Everything Microsoft!
Maybe not the best place to ask but anyways:

Is there a way to emulate all mac os ranging from 0.x to 10.x?
If so, are there manuals on how to do it and which programs?

It is all running then on a Windows PC.

Offtopic Comment
Yeah I know I am a Microsoft Guy, but I wanted to see it for myself how the competition was doing at that time.

I've played in Mac emulation before and this is what worked best for me:

  • System 1.0 - 7.5.5: Mini vMac
  • System 7.0.1 - 8.1: Basilisk II
  • System 8.5 - 10.3: Pear PC
  • OS X 10.4 and above: OSx86

PearPC will run only 10.1 to 10.3 I think, but absolutely not 8.5 to 9.x. For those try Sheepshaver.

Actually, 7.5.2 through 9.0.4. No less, no more.

If you want to emulate Mac OS X 10.4 and above, you can use Vmware Workstation (and if you want to have a restless night you can try to install Hackintosh on a real PC :P )
But you have to choose correct kexts and kernel.
So, on a russian tracker one good person released a hacked version of Mac OS X 10.6 Retail (Hackintosh) with different boot discs for different architectures (x86-32, x86-64; AMD/Intel kexts).

But if you have true mac you can legaly emulate Mac OS X Server (using Vmware Fusion or Parallels Workstation).

Yes but remember, we need ROMS to emulate MacOS on a PC ;-)

System 1.0 - 7.5.5: vmac.rom (need a legal title to a Macintosh Plus to do legally)
System 7.0.1 - 8.1: I forget the name but I believe it is legally avaible due to a BIOS update Apple performed, and using a file extractor you can get it from the Update package.
System 8.5 - 10.3: PearPC (G3? ROM)
OS X 10.4 (Intel) and above: Standard x86 BIOS ROM, which comes with vmWare

Mini vMac requires the vmac.rom to run Mac Plus. Lots of variations go here: http://minivmac.sourceforge.net/doc/var/index.html
Basilisk II requires the 68k ROM with any name, it won't work from Update 1.0, as it's for SheepShaver and older 68k roms.
SheepShaver requires the Old world ROM with any name to run 7.5.2-9.0.4 or the New World ROM with any name to run 8.5-9.0.4.
PearPC: It does not use the ROM at all, and only capable running Mac OS X 10.1-10.4.
VMWare: It uses the built in x86 ROM virtual machine, and only capable running Mac OS X 10.4 and later, nut only you can run is to use Hackintosh.

Wow, never really thought about this. I think VMWare Workstation can do it, but you'd have to give it RAM in bucketloads.

Did you use the SheepShaver GUI for the configuration? You also have to use a physical disk other wise the CD for the installation won't boot.

Mini vMac is a good Emu for older Mac OS's, it is small fast and simple.
Oh, and if you are interested in Classic Mac, try out LisaEm, it is a good Emu for the apple lisa.

Just a warning to 64-bit windows users:
The cdenable.sys does not work at all so you can't use any physical discs with sheepshaver or basilisk II.

If you have a 32-bit system though, you will be ok.

I run Rhapsody 5.1 (DR2) x86 on VMware Server. Think it works also with some versions of Virtual PC.
But it's a little bit pointless, since it is very limited a release (low max ram, no afp and almost no available software, just to name three).

There is the another emulator of Macintosh Plus. Supports SCSI, but no sound.

Just to name some more:
VMac for DOS will run System1 to 7 if I recall right, can use floppy drives.
FusionPC 3.0 for DOS will run System1 to OS8, floppy and SCSI devices should work.
SoftMac for Windows 32bit, similar to FusionPC, but lacking sound output.
FusionPC is quite nice with DOSBox and a dual core host or better.
There are some more e.g. SapeShifter and MESS, but I did not try them.

My favorite classic emulator is SheepShaver, OS7.6 with a Mandriva 32bit host, very fast and stable,
many old apps work, even Office98.
