It would seem that it is very easy to set up and use FileZilla, but apparently not to some members. Here's a nice tutorial with lots of pretty pictures to guide you.
1. Go to http://www.filezilla-project.org . 2. Click "FileZilla Client". Do not click "FileZilla Server" unless you want to run your own FTP server (not a BetaArchive requirement).
3. I will assume most people here are using Windows. Click the link that's boxed in red in the picture below.
4. Run the setup program. If any User Account Control messages pop up, click Yes and move on. When you agree to the GNU GPL License, you will be shown this screen: Leave the marked box as it is and move on.
5. The next step will have an Icon set box, Language Files box and a Shell Extension box.
The Icon set makes things look prettier, but is not required for FileZilla to run.
If English is not your native language, keep the "Language Files" box checked so you may select your native language.
If you want to right click on a file and have a FileZilla link appear in the file menu, you can leave this option checked.
6. Leave the Installation Directory alone unless you have a very good reason for changing it.
7. The Start Menu folder can be left alone too.
8. The installer will extract a few files and then you will be presented with this screen: Click finish.
9. Next, go to servers.php to get FTP logon info. Note that if your username is not in red or blue, you will not be allowed to access this page or the FTP servers.
10. Now, in FileZilla, go to File -> Site Manager. The window should look like this:
11. Click the "New Site" button. Call the new site "BetaArchive Download".
12. Go to the FTP Servers page and click the Generate Password button if you haven't already.
13. Change the Logon Type from Anonymous to Normal and put these things in the boxes: When you view the FTP Servers page, the blanked out boxes shown in the picture will be filled with some text. I have removed the text so I will not be breaking any rules about Logon Detail Leaking, something that is a very serious no-no here.
14. Change the Server Type listbox from "Use plain FTP" to "Require implicit FTP over TLS". If you skip this step, the connection will fail!
15. Click the "Connect" button. If everything works, your main FileZilla window should look similar to this:
16. Take a look through all the different files and download whatever you like!
17. Why doesn't it work? (AKA FAQ)
I get a connection established message, but then the connection times out. You're trying to connect to the FTP server with the encryption set to something other than "Require implicit FTP over TLS". Go back to your server manager and set the encryption to "Require implicit FTP over TLS".
Why am I getting "530 Login or Password incorrect."? You mistyped the username or password, or someone leaked the FTP logon info. If the latter is true, you will need to update the logon password in your Server Manager.
It won't let me download! You're probably trying to save files in "My Computer", which won't work. Click the icon that says "C:" and then you will be able to download.
"This FTP server is no longer in use for BetaArchive members" Is the FTP server down for good? No, you tried to connect as betaarchive.co.uk. You need to connect as releases.betaarchive.co.uk or else you'll get the message above.
I'm getting "Error: Could not connect to server". Why? There are several possible causes for this: human error, firewall blocking port 50000, ISP blocking port 50000. You'll have to tell us in more detail before we can figure out for sure what's going on.
Why are some files missing from the FTP server? The BetaArchive FTP server is actually two servers linked as one. Therefore if one server goes down, all you will see is what's on the remaining server.
I can't view the FTP server list. Something about "incorrect privileges". Try logging into the forum. If you still can't view the page, then you won't be allowed to until your username is red.

Hush...
I thought it would be nice to provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to set up FileZilla and get it connected to BetaArchive for anyone who doesn't know how to make it work.

Why not you link me to where you got your copy of FileZilla from and I'll see if I can make it work. If not, go download FileZilla from the project's page, linked above.

I got it to work. I don't know how to download files though. Where is all the neptune and stuff I saw in screenshots, this list looks like the advanced version to what I have been using. edit: I meant neptune sp4.

I thought it was windows 2000 server sp4 slipstreamed into windows neptune, maybe I will remake it in a project as windows neptune server reloaded. I don't think nlite gives enough customizations of the registry though, do you know any other programs?

In filezilla you should be given the option to overwrite, skip, resume, rename, etc. Select resume. If you don't get it, then you'll need to go into options and select it.

Thank you this is a great guide . I think I might actually make my own FTP server for the site now (if they need another one to use).
