I always found it really amusing that Microsoft used "Start Me Up" for the initial Windows 95 advertising campaign.

I guess they didn't wait around long enough to listen to the chorus:

"You make a grown man cry".

It depends on understanding of the word "cry". Tears of happiness do happen.

It seems you haven't used Win 3.1. Windows 95 is much, much better than Win 3.11 and older.

Windows 95 has a lot of important innovations that don't exist in Win 3.1 (new interface, 32-bit (but partially), DirectX etc.). And it much more stable. I have a laptop (Intel 486 + 8Mb RAM) and Windows 95 Original works great on it!

They should have made another Rolling Stones ad for Vista with UAC and the song "I Can't Get No Satisfaction".

Nearly right although my problem is when it says "computer shuts down", mine never did shut down, it hung on the "windows is shutting down" screen!

That's a common problem, had the same problem until I reformatted the computer..

I would say that Win98 is good only for Pentium 2 (Pentium MMX at least) and works awful (very slow) on Pentium I 100 MHz + 32Mb RAM.
Windows 95 is a very light system and works fast on i486 processors.

Yeah windows 95 can really fly on just about anything,
Mind you i did install it on a 1ghz P3. Took 10 seconds to boot up and half a second to shut down!

well i ran Windows 98 on a Pentium 75 with 64 megabytes of ram for about a year as my main computer, i would use Windows 98 over Windows 95 any day.

One reason why 98 SE was released.

I love to watch the commercial of Windows 95 and the song Start Me Up. I watch it when I feel bored. They go to together so well :).

I think Windows 98 SE is the best 9x Windows OS but that's because I was exposed to it a lot versus the other 9x OS. Windows 95 was a huge improvement in many things, especially UI so kudos to Windows 95 as Windows Vista and somewhat like 7 are based off of, that is the task bar.
