After the wreck that was Odyssey and Neptune RTM project, here's a new one.
I don't currently have an ultimate goal for it since I'm having total mindblock so if anyone wants to suggest a goal, let me know. The only goal I could think of though was "Information when you want it".
Screenshots (Old Cougar ones): The theme used here is Black And Blue and is a placeholder.
Current things to do: Figure out an ultimate goal (unless "Information when you want it" is good enough) Replace Internet Explorer with another browser Finish client-izing Server 2003
Distribution: WIM-based setup will be used
If anyone has an FTP server I can use, that would be helpful. Web-based uploads work but they are really slow.
Now it is time to vanish into the shadows until the next update...

The first public release should be here soon. I've got the basics done so I'll get a build uploaded once I figure out how to turn a syspreped VHD into a WIM.

How about coming up with your own identity, as opposed to trying to ride on the "mystical" nature of Cougar? It's one thing for a newbie to create a fake version of Windows (You're using a real Microsoft OS codename for your Windows modification...) what's next, "Windows Vienna - take your life with you"?
This sounds like a very good custom OS, and we haven't had any by users who can code for a while, don't ruin it by using a name that's already been assigned to an OS project.

I still have builds left over from Neptune in working order; I could base something on that. I'll look later.

My proposal, in that case:
XP Pro SP3, nLited to remove unnecessary junk and to add options to get info when you need it, A Vista-based PE for install, Hopefully a C#-based installer, Some apps e.g. Chrome or Firefox etc. built in; they're open source and can be modified, Mimimal size so it can be downloaded easily, New themes, Other stuff etc.
Seeing as it's Cougar, an old OS, most probably Inexperience Patcher.

What do you think?
I'm using Server 2003 SP1 since NTOSDrop will run only on that. PantherXP FTW? Even if .NET is built into S2k3, none of that stuff please. I don't even know C#. I was looking at Chromium to replace IE No comment A new theme will be made to replace the placeholder theme.
It's not Cougar anymore, it's Windows Codename "Info Now" 2010.

Service Pack 1, WTH?
Again, Server 2003 SP1.
Chromium definitely. PantherXP, maybe, this isn't VLK though and AFAIK that's needed. NTOSDrop... I really see no advantage whatsoever for these projects. .NET... the installer I will simply copy in the exe. No source involved. Theme, where did that one come from. Will find a new icon theme anyway for betas. I shall design placeholder bitmaps for my builds maybe. Minimal size would be good.
EDIT: ClamWin included? My personal AV of choice and it's FOSS so there shouldn't be a problem.

When I was testing the ISO I made, it seems that something didn't work right. What happened looks like the hard disk is locked to read-only and BOOT.INI doesn't have /hal=halacpim.dll like I set it up to be, causing the lockup (well, that and having the HDD locked to read-only I think). So, it looks like PantherXP is out of the question. A Virtual PC 2007 VHD will be provided instead.
