My mind just sparked on what else I could use a mobile BA on: Low End Macs (YAY!) I've had a craving to find a better use for my iMac deskclock (Just an iMac for those who are curious btw) than just playing music to wake me up... and this would work well.

as long as its an OPTION meaning we can use the full site on mobile device's being forced to use a mobile site should only be necessary if flash is used HEAVILY on the site even then flash is dieing and being replaced by HTML5
it should be a overlay/popup when you visit the site asking if you wanna use the mobile site or maybe a link at the top of the page that says "click here for text only version"

I think a pop-up would be a little too intrusive, especially on a mobile device. I'd go for the link, but the other way around. It would detect whether you're on a mobile device, show the site with the mobile skin and give you the option to switch to normal mode.

because the SUCKERS/sheep who will buy the ipad will be greeted with the txt only version and would thus complain because the ipad will be using the same version of safari as the iphone it WONT be the normal version
and also because idevices can see the normal web just fine and dont really need a mobile site ( pinch to zoom )

But yet the regular hi-fi version would take longer to render on 3g\edge I would rather that we "inconvience" those with enough cash to own said ipad\phone with a simple click (and cookie prolly) to get to the normal version.

if you have enough money to spend 3 grand every year in yearly mobile phone payments then you have enough money to deal with the full version first
even android users should have to see the full version first and it should be an UN-book markable link in java so that they can never bookmark the link and have to see the full version first

Well then... if they have the 3grand a year, plus the money to get the actual device, they could also afford a simple donation to BA to get their Normal first crap. Deal. It's Andy's project, not yours. I doubt anyone but you would complain about having to click a link. and if they do, i'll be surprised... nobody is that childish.
