Hello all,
Due to popular demand after a suggestion, I have installed an ajax chat script to allow IRC-like chatting with other BA members. I'd like to thank Leon Bollerup for finding the script we're using.
Please test it out and let me know what you think by answering the poll. Bare in mind, the chat system is in beta at the moment. Though the script itself is not, I will be editing it to comply with BA's theme.
Since the script is tied into the forum, you will be logged in automatically under your forum username. This makes it easy to know who is talking on the chat and stops guests from interrupting and spamming. Guests cannot use the chat feature.

Nice, simple theme, Works very well. Definitely a good job (in my opinion )

A few pieces of food for thought: 1: Good timing... after Win7 was released, the FTP isn't access nearly as much, leaving the bandwith open for the chat. 2: Expect downtime. Newegg.com runs a community called Eggxpert, and the 2nd day of their chat going into beta, there were so many users that the server crashed... twice. It still crashes on a weekly basis due to load and traffic (And now their server for chat is seperate from the forum one) 3: A sugestion: Could the chat be configured so that your username only stands out on your screen as either a different color, or bolded, so that you know where you last said anything? (I'm just suggesting this because i'm spoiled by the Eggxpert one which is flash\javascript\some other scripting, so that it is cross anything compatible (except IRC))

It's nice. My only issue is I don't run my world in a Web browser, and this appears to be a IRC - like chat system, just in a browser.. that's it's major flaw in my view. There's lots of people now, but soon it will be forgotten, and it will be how IRC ended up, one or two people.
And DORFD1, it's not stealing a feature. It's reimplementing a feature which we had on BA (in a different form). Thanks for that tone >_>

Looks like we won't be using this chat script because of the CPU usage. 25 people in the chat and it's using 1 1/2 cores of the quad core CPU. We'll have to try out IRC again.

IRC is really lightweight. It's so lightweight, it can even run on an 8088 with minimal lag. So with a quad-core CPU, I don't think you'll have much trouble with CPU usage if you run IRC in the quad-core server.

The image spamming got annoying. For the short time I popped in people were sending random pics basically for entertainment /novelty. Dunno if it got worse / more and I only sent one.

It's not IRC, its just an ajax chat system which runs in conjunction with the forum. I will be pulling this in favour of IRC, since it's way too resource intensive.
I should remind everyone that EVERYTHING you type on the ajax chat is stored. I have had several people tell me that certain users are insulting other members on the chat. This is not on at all. If I go through the chat and find it's true you will be banned.

I would suggest taking out the following:
Someone can change it's username and then pretent to be another member. (It shows in the log who changes it name, but still I think you should take that out).
btw. Great chat, used it myself on 1 of the forums I run (well it was only used for sometime because it was actually never used, died quickly) it's great, easy to use and implements (even as shoutbox on the forum is possible with this).

I don't get why people seem to keep ignoring the posts I make where I say I am removing the ajax chat in favour of IRC, thus there is no point in editing anything.

sorry! I thought some posts above this one lost in translation, I translated it as, that this was better then IRC because of the resources irc used. But then I am not into chat/irc things.
