There has been a few rumors lately that BetaArchive will go commercial and sell out staff positions and VIP member spots to existing BA members. Similar emails has also contained the rumor that BA will become closed and that you will automatically be banned unless you post xxx posts, upgrade your account (for a fee of course) or any number of other fee-related actions.

Let me be clear on this: These emails are all lies!

BetaArchive is not becoming a closed community nor a pay-site. Our donation system is however active and all donations goes exclusively to pay for the BetaArchive domain and server, nothing else. No one will be forced to pay to get access to BetaArchive now or in the future.

Many of these emails has come from an address resembling my email address. I got only two addresses which are mrpijey (at) mrpijey.net and mrpijey (at) hotmail.com, nothing more. The first is run on a domain I own and control, managed by an email server I own and control. The second is used for my MSN only. I do not have any other email addresses on any other domains starting with "mrpijey". If anyone has any question regarding an odd email address then contact me. But the only MSN contact you will see that is mine is the one with the address mrpijey (at) hotmail.com. If you see any .de, .se, .ru or whatever then it's fake and that's not me.

Simply, don't pay attention to any of these rumors, and if someone pops up on MSN claiming to be me then put a ban on and ignore him. If you report it to me then I can inform Andy and the moderators so they can keep track of what's happening around BA.

And to whoever that sends out these emails (yes, I have a fairly good idea who you are!), get a life. Your little childish games will not do any damage to neither BetaArchive or its related beta communities, and all members already knows that whatever happens in the future on BetaArchive it will be announced on BetaArchive forum first, a good time before we implement it. E-mail announcements will be done as a last resort to inform casually active members. But you will always find any information first on this forum and nowhere else.

Just to note on top of this, I'd like to say the same from mrpijey, Many of you may or may not have been getting various emails from jamesmaloy2300 email addresses, opensourcer1997 email addresses, and atomicbomb6400 email addresses aswell. Saying that I plan to overthrow various forums and such. I only am the owner, of TWO EMAIL ADDRESSES, These are:

atomicbomb6900@live.com
opensourcer1997@aol.com

I have an idea of who you are, the person who keeps imitating me. Please stop, I'd rather not get involved in these petty wars. Thank you.

I can't understand why, in a forum like this, this kind of people show up every year. Be them stealing the ip addresses of the users, creating flame wars, spreading misleading information or just anoying fellow users. Why do they appear here? I mean, it's not like BetaArchive is a big community, or one of the leading voices on the Internet.

I suppose that the answer is "for s*its and giggles", but why here and not in other forums, like sports teams related, videogame related or 4chan?

Sorry, I just had to ask this.

I think these are ex-osbg members, judging by how the fourm rules have punishments for those who upload pr0n.

Who these people are can all be speculation so please keep it off this forum. And whatever rules other forums have is nor very relevant either, BA has many members that are also members on OSBG and other forums so I would appreciate if you kept your theory to yourself :). I am also a member and I don't see what "pr0n" has to do with it. Trust me, BetaArchive would not be lenient if you uploaded the same kind of material here either.

Remember people, OSBG, TBG etc are all part of the same community here. We all discuss and share betas. We may not have the same rules and ideas on how to run a beta community but BetaArchive has no issue with any of the other communities. So unless someone has any conclusive proof that any of them is causing problems here (present these proofs to me or Andy in private then) I don't see any reason to wildly speculate on who it is or isn't.

Either way it's tragic that BetaArchive (and other forums as well) has to bother with this kind of nuisance, but eventually they will stop.

Maybe it's 4chan users noticing that moot is being Nazi-like in his moderation of /b/. (As in no CP, raids, etc.) And the cesspool is bored, and so they move on to trolling forums.
BetaArchive is for people who are "smart", per se, and not for the people who just go "OMG GIMME RS/MU LINX!!!!111111!".
Of course, there are some users, who came here like that and eventually became sensible posters.

What mrpijey said has been going on for a few months now. As he says, if anything was going to happen to BetaArchive that affects the members, you will be notified through the forum, not e-mail. You may get a mass e-mail asking you to visit a topic on the forum for those members who are not as active as others.

BetaArchive will never become a closed community or a subscription community. Even if we have to get rid of the FTP and become just a forum due to the cost of the server, so be it. But BetaArchive will never charge for access. Donations are there to keep everything free, without them BetaArchive wouldn't be able to let you enjoy the free FTP access it currently does.

Unless what you hear about BetaArchive changes come from either myself or mrpijey, then don't take any note of them. If in doubt, you can contact me in various ways. E-mail, PM on the forum or MSN.

It should be noted I have only ONE MSN address, and it is the one used in my profile. I have TWO e-mail addresses which I control on the BA server. Those are:

webmaster ~at~ betaarchive.co.uk (which should be used for BA issues)
webmaster ~at~ abyssunderground.co.uk (which should be used for anything else).

There is also the PayPal address m3ezw ~at~ fsmail.net which I may reply with to thank you for the donation if you have not PM'ed me on the forum where I would normally reply. I do not use this for anything else and is simply a secondary off-server e-mail account in case the BA server is down.

No other e-mail addresses are used, so anyone claiming to be me certainly is not. I don't take part in group MSN conversations unless asked to and I know ALL of the people in the conversation.

Whoever it is, you can't win whatever it is you're trying to do. You're wasting your time.

I concur.

I've been getting overly spammed by imitators of myself, constantly over this WEEK alone, The person who is bothering Me and Battler, has been spamming Battler's inbox with messages, saying I plan to overthrow a forum, or its from someone like mbl (I know its not him.), and that James plans to overthrow x, or its from mrpijey, or Andy. We are sick of it, and if you keep going, you are digging yourself deeper

(Most of these email addresses have origin from @yahoo.de, @hotmail.co.jp, @hotmail.co.kr, and various other nationalities, most of the @yahoo.de accounts, claim that they are me. Infact, I even saw a BigPond version of my email address at one time)

*The Inbox thing, why does that sound like something that happened on BA in 2007? *checks posts*

Anyway, Honestly, whoever the hell you are. Stop.

Like the WildEye thing? I haven't been around the forum long enough, but I never got any emails of that sort.

Isn't acknowledging the problem just going to keep it going? Seems like all this discussion is just feeding the trolls. First post; point taken. Aside form that, why talk about it? Hasn't this crap been going on for, it seems like to me, literally more than a year?

Here's some food for thought: Why would someone be imitating James? He's not staff and there are plenty of other people on this forum that post regularly.

I don't see how anyone could get anything out of doing things like this, and It's hardly something that wouldn't be posted on BA first, but how are they accessing emails...

They don't access the e-mails. They use fake addresses, or the fake the sender. It's very easy.

Yes it's very easy to send an email from someone else's address. It's more likely to get spam filtered but still there is no restriction in place with SMTP that stops this. If you get any emails it's always best to go to the website and ask around..

You said you were being impersonated. Didn't some guy called WildEye001 impersonate you some time back?

He used xxx as a generic number place-holder, not as an abbreviation of porn. So basically he meant the xxx, as you'd say, for example, nnn, as well. So xxx posts = nnn posts, so basically a number of posts. :p

Why would someone impersonate someone? That's just not right.
