As many of you know Microsoft has an old abandonware/discontinued FTP server ftp://ftp.microsoft.com
Unfortunately it has not been updated in quite a few years.

You'd better download everything from that FTP as the content may be removed in any time..
Apple once have a similar FTP for about 10 years however they suddenly removed all content in that in 2010..

This content is mirrored by many collectors, it's well known and been posted here before (and lacks any interesting content at all iirc).

The final full MPW, many sample code and SDK for classic Mac OS were once available on Apple's ftp.apple.com...
There is an incomplete copy of Word 6.0 and Excel 5.0 for NT on ftp.microsoft.com..

If anyone is ever interested, we've got a complete mirror of the MS ftp site, which will be maintained for many many years, even if the official ftp goes offline. Send me PM if you need something in the future

Pretty much every big company has one... Mostly for internal access, old/abandoned stuff, or just junk...

FYI we already have package of what is included in MSLFILES on our FTP Server. I think those are the most important ones in the FTP and other directories are just KBs.

No, just only service packs.

The FTP server seems to be gone forever now. No matter what I do, I cannot connect to it at all.

Yep thats sad too. I remember when i first seen this server back in the day. I did have everything off of it, but now, its gone. :(

It was like 75GB or more if i remember of space it took up.

My thought is they might of shut it down finally to make up more room on servers for new Windows releases, since that was all stuff for Windows 1.0-98 anyways and never was used, but was still turned on all those years.

Except that they have lots of servers on campus worldwide and in lots of datacenters, and don't forget all the contract hosting!

Ah, I remember when I found this out by typing in ftp.microsoft.com into filezilla. I thought it was pretty cool, but soon figured out theres not much interesting stuff in there (at least I didn't find it interesting at the time).

Oh wow, just realised its gone. :( I wanted to check whats on there. I guess there's some mirror somewhere...

Maybe its offline for maintainence? Updates? Since it was still available 21 Apr 2012 03:46:58 GMT as some files are available in Google Cache.

That mirror seems to be offline also...

If it's down I have a mirror of bussys, developr, ResKit and Softlib - 8GB of stuff. If the server will be permanently down I will upload it to our FTP. If it's up again I would suggest making a mirror should on the betaarchive FTP.

Wish I had the quota to make personal mirrors of things. As a matter of fact I think I need another external hard drive, my 1TB is getting pretty full. But yes, if there is interesting stuff I think there will be quite a few interested (although most would probably already have it all).
