Thanks for your info, have been downloading the DVD version from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ .
Ubuntu homepage was almost inaccessible in the past hour (maybe due to high traffic, but it seems OK now).

I'm gonna use the torrent link. Those usually have better speeds than the direct download. But I'm not expecting it to run on my computer. Ubuntu hates my hardware, for some reason.

They have a direct iso download link right?

Yeah, they do. I just prefer using the torrent because it gets better speeds and doesn't force me to restart the download when my Internet blips (which happens about once an hour).

Exactly what he just said.

Also, I had very little hope going into the season of Ubuntu 12.04 as I was very disappointed in 11.xx. I liked Unity and felt it only needed some minor things polished, but I actually had Ubuntu freeze frequently. I could never figure out what was causing it either, plus my startup time increased by about 7 seconds from 10.10. I look forward to buying my self a copy of Ubuntu 12.04 either from Ebay or through the Ubuntu store.

Does everybody else like the fact that the support has been lengthened to 5 years for the desktop version as the server has been? I think it is a very good move as I don't get around to upgrading to new versions. Especially now that you can't upgrade using the Alternate.

Umm....danielcarlhaffner, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. I was saying that as far as my options for downloading a 12.04 ISO, I prefer torrents. I never had a problem with 11.xx, other than a slight tendency to be a battery hog (which I understand is a problem with the current 3.x Linux kernel, not an issue with Ubuntu specifically). And 12.04 has been polished even more. I look forward to getting to try out the HUD, for one thing.

I changed a couple of things in my previous post, perhaps now you can understand me.

From what I have heard the battery hog issue is a kernal 3.x problem.

Yay, they've returned to desktops matching the creature name! That purple-jelly background was horrible.

Been waiting for this. Currently have Ubuntu 10.04 in my virtual machine. Will a direct update work?

LTS to LTS. Seems a direct update will work.

Sadly they still are insisting on using that crowded and crazy looking Unity design... Ick. I liked all ubuntus until 11. well, 10.04 was bad too.

personally I like Unity, mostly because I never had the chance to use KDE or Gnome. the new HUD is great.

just an update, it looks like BURG (bootloader) does not work in 12.04 :(

Same here, but I still update to latest version, and just use Gnome with Cairo Doc and Compiz Effects, way better than unity. Haven't got the themes working properly yet (ages ago I had some proper theme manager, but I've lost it).

Yeah, Quantal Quetzal already. I usually go Beta-Beta, but sometimes do a daily build.

For those of you who dislike Unity, I highly recommend installing Cinnamon. It's easy to find instructions online, and it's a lightweight and gorgeous GNOME shell.

Is Cinnamon available on Ubuntu (https://launchpad.net/~gwendal-lebihan-dev/+archive/cinnamon-stable says Oneric, suppose it would work?). I will have to check it out.

Dunno if it's available for Quetzal yet, but it worked perfectly on Oneiric.

Well, I'd only use it for Precise anyway, so if it works well on Oneric, I think it will work. Seems like it might even be good straight out of box (instead of lots of customization and testing different themes).

It IS good out of the box, yes. I like installing a custom theme, but you don't have to.

This is Ubuntu 12.04 Final 64bit straight after a clean install.

Although it is still easy to change.
