How does one specifically set the resolution for the login screen in Ubuntu 12.04? There is no xorg.conf file, not running gdm. Any suggestions?

I have found tons of info on editing grub, gdm seetings in Default, xorg.conf file, etc.

This is running on VMware Workstation 8, tools installed. It must be showing the max resolution. Same issue even when tools were not installed.

Ubuntu uses LightDM starting with 11.10 IIRC.
xorg.conf is deprecated.

To be honest, I assumed that the login screen used the same resolution settings as the desktop.

Seems the workaround is to manually set the maximum resolution in Settings-Display. Not sure why it works without setting it that way with 11.10 and before. Just seem to have the issue with 12.04.

Well, 12.04 IS a beta. Maybe it's simply a bug. Isn't 12.04 the first build to use Wayland?
