They're most likely from TechNet/MSDN, so legal in that they will activate (they couldn't really sell fake keys as people would soon find that they didn't work) but not legal in that you should not sell on these keys, they are for the subscriber's use only.
In fact, there are cases where people have bought those MSDN keys from some chump on eBay, use them for a little while, then start getting non-genuine notifications. If Microsoft detects that their MSDN keys are being used like this, they often blacklist the leaked keys from passing Validation.

A question about activation, once windows vista/7 OEM are activated, if you install & activate the same license on another PC, does the original one deactivate or do they both continue functioning fine?

I believe the OEM license is supposed to be tied to one and only one computer, period. Online Activation may present a problem because of this.

Thanks for posting this thread... I've had so many questions about the legalities and rules of the different licenses of Windows for a long time and this has answered almost all of them!!

Microsoft Select is volume licensing program that works for 250 PCs. It falls into several categories, the Windows one will put into System Pool. Refer it to: http://selectug.mslicense.com/ArchivedUG/default.htm

For my Windows 7 from MSDN Academic Alliance, online activation succeeded me simultaneously for both my computer and virtual machine: I have never heard of classmates that, after they abandoned the school, have not received updates from Microsoft anymore.

Academic Retail
*Academic licenses can be bought for Full or Upgrades. Sometimes academic licenses entitle users to less functionality or more specific functionality then the regular product (such as Microsoft Office), or they can be exactly the same product as the usual retail version (such as Microsoft Vista). *Academic licenses are considerably cheaper than the usual retail versions. *Academic licenses are only available to Students studying at primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. The license also applies to parents/guardians of qualifying students and, in some circumstances, teachers and academic staff.
This is information is a guide only, there may be errors - please check the license before buying academic software

I really appreciate everyone's input on this very important topic to me and many other users. My question is regarding an enterprise license for Office. Our IT said users could purchase a Home Use license for $9.99 (I think that's the basic price), but it expires if no longer an employee. Can someone expound upon the Microsoft licensing information regarding this or where it's documented to confirm? Thanks to all in advance.
