Given the confusion in this and in a few other threads from the past I remember, I decided to create a timeline/overview of the development of IA-64 Windows based on my knowledge and research.

Here you go: http://www.windowswiki.info/2012/07/18/ ... 4-windows/

Apparently yes, but it's for intel itanium and not x86-64 we all know as x64.

Here is an early ia64 system that I posted some pics of a couple years ago on another forum:

http://forums.nekochan.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16722378

I don't have the machine anymore but it did run the 2003-based beta OS and 2003 Server with service packs.

wow, the Windows Whistler Advanced Server 64-bit boot screen in action, beta 1 screenshot is incredible. would love to have that build in my possession just for that bootscreen. and since my intel atom has 64bit support i can run this! :-)

No, you can't. IA-64 isn't the same as AMD64...IA-64 is also terrible, not a lot of applications were designed for it...
And the person who probably designed that bootscreen just put that there as a temporary thing...

Puzzle me this: Why are you DOWNGRADING (!!!) from an already unstable Vista build to an even more unstable build of Whistler (!?!?!?)...
My Atom can do games too (GoldSRC/Quake engine, Source/all other modern games are out of the question), video encoding...maybe a 240p vid :)

ok, time to clear something up. i am not downgrading from an unstable OS as 5840 is actually the RTM build of windows in escrow sage. it uses rtm keys supports rtm updates and has no expiration. it is also susceptible to rtm cracks, patches, etc. i had it lying around which is why i use it.
i am putting this on my temp window 8 partition until windows 8 rtms.

IA-64 is a completely different microprocessor architecture. Just like you cannot run 64bit MIPS programs on your 64bit Atom, you cannot run IA-64 programs on that one.

EM64T is NOT the same to IA-64.
To run this you either need an Itanium or an emulator.

IA-32 = 32-bit, x86, i386, ...
IA-64 = Itanium
x86-64 = 64-bit, x64, AMD64, Intel 64, x86_64, EM64T ...

IA-64 =/= x86-64

Have fun with your architecture mismatch.
