I've tested till now with XP SP3 RTM, Server 2003, LH 4074 (didn't work for me on 3718, 4051)

And the point of that is...? Besides, Windows To Go is going to be a feature of Windows 8; with that you can roll out your own portable Windows 8 install on a flash drive.

You can take a WIM of your VM and then put it in a WinPE 2/3 DVD as the "boot.wim".

I've tried with Windows XP SP2 unsuccessfully (both VirtualBox and VMware Player): at the last step, the ISO from ETBoot Builder is not readable by UltraISO and it does not boot into a virtual machine.
Can you describe which steps do you do differently from the PDF guide?

I've tested with VMWare Workstation with pre-allocated diskspace from 3.9 GB

Skip steps where you use SelfImage (pic 6 and 7), i.e. after shudown your virtual machine go directly to ETBoot Builder, select for type "all types" in harddisk image and capture vmdk (3gb file, for example: in my documents\virtual machines\your machine.winxphome.vmdk)

First I tried to skip SelfImage, but same result.
Then I tried to skip the step for the IDE controller driver and ... it works!
