Hey, I'd like to know why the S3 display drivers in NT 4.0 will support up to 1024x768x24, whilst the ones in NT 5.0 build 1585 will only support up to 1024x768x16 and how I can get back 24 bit color depth in the said resolution. I've tried installing S3's Trio64 drivers from their site and I get the same results every time, and using alternate drivers that do support that res and color depth turn out to not be compatible with NT 5. (even though their from around the same date and year. :/) Any help is appreciated.

the S3 card emulated by Virtual PC doesn't actually support 24-bit mode, so NT 5.0 is right there.
Really? I've gotten that res and color depth in NT 4.0, NT 3.51, XP, Windows 3.1, Windows 2000, virtually every system I've tried on it supports 24 bit color, I dont know why this one doesn't.

What drivers are you using?

Yep.

using the VM Additions S3 drivers from the VPC2007 SP1 additions, I've extracted them from the installer.

I know for one it's a major nuisance on Linux, which loves to default to 24-bit color depth, causing garbage to appear in VPC. You have to force it to 16- or 32-bit mode to make it work.
