I download Longhorn 3718 from the BA FTP and installed it in a virtual machine using Virtual PC 2007.
I managed to get WMP 10 installed:
When I try to install Media Center, Windows gives me some message about an edition violation. Media Center still installs, but crashes when I try to run it. I tried using TweakNT to change the edition to Media Center, but now it freezes the virtual machine when I try to run Media Center.
Also, how do I install the sound drivers and get the sidebar to show again? I used to be able to show/hide the side bar by clicking the button in the right hand corner of the taskbar, but this no longer seems to work.
IIRC there was a fix for this situation but I don't know it, try searching the forums, search hard, it's buried within BetaArchive. MCB also had info about a fix for this but I can't find it now.

actually same restriction applies to LH untill build 4074, because from 4074 build LH was based on Windows Server 2003, not on XP.
All the pre-reset Longhorn builds are based on Server 2003 RC. Not on XP. Although 3xxx Longhorns identify themselves as "Longhorn XP", they're only Server 2003 builds given a Client SKU and with all the Longhorn goodies.

How to install WMP10 in LH 3718? I always got error about windows logo cert warning
That reminds me. Q3, You got WMP10 on Longhorn. How did you do it?
First, I extracted the setup using 7-zip. I edited all the .inf files to remove the references to the .cat files. Then I installed them one-by-one, by right-clicking and selecting Install. Some of the files (playlists and skins) end up in the wrong place. You have to manually move these. When you attempt to run Windows Media Player, it gives you an error about the files versions. You will need to find the section in the registry where the versions are for the 3 core Windows Media Player files. Then you have to change them to the WMP 10 versions.
There's a better way to do it, and you'll probably have difficulty with my method.
I finally managed to install the sound drivers, enough that they work (there are still a few problems in device manager) When I launch Media Center, I hear the startup sound, but the window never appears. If a wait a few minutes, I can open task manager and kill ehshell.exe to quit it.
from my experience using 3718 INF editing can help a lot in getting software to install, you can also update MSI and DirectX or start setups in XP compatibility mode.

Can someone upload patched inf files or whole WMP10 installation folder, and instruction for proper installation, or simply to make batch script file to move files on correct places.

You're wrong, build 4093 and ealiler were based on Windows .NET Server 2003 RC Codebase and after that they changed it to Windows Server 2003 SP1 Codebase

IIRC XP's media center only runs on specified graphic cards. I think the S3 Trio is not capable of running Media Center.
PS: I'm not sure if the same restriction applies to LH
because things that apply to xp apply to server 2003 and rcs of server 2003, longhorn build 3718 is based on .net server 2003 rc which means that longhorn pre-reset builds have the same limits
