There is a way to remove/disarm the time bomb, but from cosmetic point of view string "Evaluation copy. Expires 1/15/2013..." unfortunately remain.

Now I'm faced with another problem, I want to use Start8 for importing OLD-orb start menu to Windows 8 Consumer Preview, but also Start8 has integrated time-bomb in self, I guess expiration date is the same of Win8 CP, however I cannot still find out how to manage this :S

Update: Restart in Safemode, and there use the same activator for Windows 8 build 7850... but here activator doesn't work, only section for timebomb remover / disarming working, and then restart again in normal mode.

The activation is permanently, but Windows Update doesn't work any more.

On the Watermark I'm workin on that should have something to solve that in the next couple of days by Reverse Engineering some of the files. I have no comment on the so called timebomb issue ahhhh yaa.

Timebomb? what is this time-bomb in which you speak of.

Basically, it renders the product useless once a certain date has gone by.

Ya I know man I was being sarcastic. I'm still curious of how he dealt with it for my own reasons.

Or if the timebomb just is broken to start off with.

There are rumors all over the internet that there is a working timebomb/nuke.
I am not making any attempt to find it as by the time this expires i will be on RMT or at least RC.
As for the watermark i am just going to leave it there.

Nothing will happen for the next two hours, or for the next 2 years ... there wasn't any BSODs.

Image

Why? - Maybe this non-core edition of Windows is confused some how... :D

The watermark has already been removed in x86 and x64 over at MDL

I got rid of it on my desktop x64 and laptop x86 ages ago

I wanted to do something different and yes I know MDL already has one heck even winunleaked has it however they were not stable for the 64 bit copy I was running. Also as an after thought I'm banned from mdl forums anyway for reasons which I will not state.

@ the Timebomb interesting... but not the only method I've seen used.

This is great! Thank you very much for posting this. Now if we could get back the old start menu but keep Metro. I wouldn't really mind Metro if I could use the old Windows 7 start menu.

You can. Someone used ViStart, it brings back the start menu in original style. There's also Start8, which makes the start menu a small Start Center window.

ViStart is OK but it still isn't the same. Not that I don't use it. I have used Start8 but I just didn't like it very much, I just wanted the start menu.

The issue everyone has with viStart is that it really is a dumbed down version of the windows 7 start menu. You can't right click any of the side column locations. Also you can't do a few other things in windows 7 its pretty ok but ehhh I just don't like it.

I suppose this de-timebomb trick also works with DP?

Yep it works by installing a KMS key on windows 8 using the same method from windows 7 to activate.

From what I'm seeing this will probably not work on the RTM escrow builds of Windows 8.

I've tried it (on DP), but it doesn't looks like it's working..
Used the 'remove timebomb' button from the 7850 activator (in safe-mode), but the program keeps saying it's timebombed (although it said 'timebomb removed succesfully') :P

Is this the correct way to remove the timebomb?

Hmm, seems good, will be useful for people who can't buy Windows 8 RTM and also if you integrate this fixed version in a WIM or provide instructions or a application to crack the time bomb, people won't have to have a BIOS date fixing pain.

1.) Extract files from Activator for build 7850 with 7-Zip.
2.) In your install.WIM, go to Windows\System32\spp
3.) Take Ownership on entire spp folder.
4.) Overwrite folder store from Activator folder to spp (in system32 of your wim)
5.) From subfolder tokens (in activator folder) copy folders issuance and ppdlic to spp\tokens in system of your wim (overwrite all files).

Re-build your Wim file.

On next installing you get free from timebomb!

Warning! When you get all work done, there is still one issue.

I recommend after you install your new Windows 8 CP (with pre-removed time bomb), to update, and install all available updates immediately, if you want to use NETFrameworks to install them via Programs and Features -> Windows Components, and when you finish with all that, from services.msc to stop and disable Windows Updates. With this more complete method than previous I'm faced now with another problem 2-hours restart license protection -this will never happen if you don't activate your copy from Computer -> System -> Properties. Yea there will forever stay string: "Windows is not activated"... but that is not important at all. On the end you will still have fully unlocked and workable system.

Since 7850 only leaked as an x86 build, does this timebomb patch method work on 64-bit versions of the Windows 8 Beta? Nobody should be using 32-bit Windows these days.
