Winword 2.0 includes a shell.dll, which indicates the existence of Windows 3.1.043d.
Any more information about that?

All Microsoft operating systems!
Well, German has already confirmed the existence of this build, as with many, many other builds (I have listed them all in my project, the Official Microsoft OS Checklist for The Beta Group and AbandoNet), however, it is quite interesting to see that certain portions of this build are available within Word for Windows 2.0.

If you could try to find as many portions of this build as possible from the same source, it would be greatly appreciated, since I could try to rebuild it from not only the files of which are apparently available (as is even evidenced by the above screenshot of this particular build's About Windows dialog box), but also the information of this build, along with Build 43e and even Build 43 in general, of which I happen to have available.

Also, this proves my theory that Windows flag logo within the About Windows dialog boxes of the various different compiles of Build 43 had no actual "Microsoft Windows" text, but rather a somewhat differently colored Windows flag logo alone, with no text whatsoever (see my fake screenshots of Build 43e, registered to Microsoft beta tester and author of Mastering Windows 3.1, of which contains beta screenshots of Windows 3.1, Bob Cowart, in the old version of the Fake Screenshots Contest topic here on BetaArchive, if you want to see my point).

So yes, this build certainly exists, since not only has it been confirmed to exist by German in his Windows build listings, but as you said, there is even a copy of its SHELL.DLL contained within Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0, as is even evidenced by the above screenshot.

The shell.dll file is necessary to run dde and ole, along with obvious files.

3.10.043 may be a continued development of the file, without going to release.

Likewise, you will find winhelp 3.10.505, which matches the last help compilers, but this was never packaged in windows of any version. I found my version in winos2.

Shell is the core component between File Manager and win 16 kernel.
I wonder why they included it,perhaps to bring Win 3.1 API partially to 3.0

Windows 3.x's shell.dll contains the first version of Windows Registry (stored in reg.dat) API. OLE 1.x require that to work.
