Well... in the Brazilian LinuxConf conference, Linus Torvalds said something about UEFI... (translated)

Linus Torvalds wrote:
I'm optimist. The release will have success in a long term, secure boot is another of those short fashions. Technologies that block things end with fail... people wants freedom and markets want freedom.

If Microsoft has courage to block Linux, Linus has courage to laugh at Microsoft.

What do you think?

Microsoft isn't "blocking Linux". There've been several topics on this on the boards already, but the short version is that UEFI's "secure boot" can be turned off, and therefore Linux can be installed as long as the user doesn't mind sacrificing the added security of Secure Boot mode.

Of course it can be turned off - i've already told that previously.
And... well... REALLY just by putting a simple bootloader, GRUB will not work?

...world is full of hackers. It's just time.

Yes, set

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RPEnabled
to 0.

I love the new Metro UI, but I'd like to see how one could completely de-pill this build, just for the fun of it. By de-pill, I mean revert to the old 7-style theme, disable metroui and ribbon, disable new logon, etc.

IIRC removing shsxs.dll turned off all new features ... (And even the Microsoft Confidential watermark appeared).

Nope. SHSXS.dll is only for the start screen.

I have figured out how to de-pill Windows Developer Preview. Just take the slc.dll out of 7989 and put it in place of the default one in %windir%\system32, and rename shsxs.dll to something else. Everything (all Windows core functions like control panel) should still work fine.

@DBlake: Just remove SHSXSWasEnabled, RPEnabled, RPInstalled, the 2nd RPEnabled dwordz and you'd get an unpilled Windows Developer Preview ;)

What VMs will the WDP run in? Has anyone been successful with that? Also, can someone tell me when this expires for after I've got it running in a VM? Thank you.

A real PC, Virtual box 4, VMware 8.
March 12th, 2012, plenty of time after the OFFICAL BETA and STORE BETA is released.

Hey, I'm wondering, is Microsoft updating WDP? I mean, is this still the same version as the one it was when they first released it in public? I've read somewhere it has been updated, but you can't automatically update it from previous version of WDP, but you have to download a new one and install it again, so I'm wondering if someone is just messing with my head or Microsoft really updated from 8102 to 8149? It's quite possible I just misunderstood the whole thing and WDP build is 8102 and it's going to stay like that, and this guy wants Microsoft to update to 8149 xD :$

The next public version will be the Beta, soon. No clue why you're interested 8149.
