Hmm thanks for the side-by-side pics. So does that mean I don't need MSE in the DP?
I just hope Microsoft update them side-by-side.

EDIT: 666th post...

Yes, you won't need MSE in Windows 8. However, you can use MSE if you wish so. Conflicts are not an issue since Microsoft developed both Windows Defender and MSE to not be able to run their real-time protection mechanisms simultaneously ;)

Okay sweet. I just hope in future builds they have a icon in the notification area. I miss opening MSE like that and don't like it taking space being pinned.

Yes, I too hope they add an option of a notification area icon and a context menu option for Windows Defender.

Start taskmgr.exe and TM.exe.

I tried, but TM.exe does nothing on my PC. I have RPEnabled set to 0, which should be the same situation as SatoMew's one since it has the "old" Start Orb.

He just renamed shsxs.dll to shsxs.dll.old (or SHSXSWasEnabled - 0). This keeps the TM.exe and the ribbon.

Mmmmh... I'll retry, but the last time I had no results with that method, only issues with network connections menu.

EDIT: just re-tried. No way for me renaming shsxs, no new TM if I do it.

I had no problem. I've even 100% "unpilled" my installation, and in 10 minutes I've repilled it with 2 registry and one command key.
Code:
takeown /f %windir%\system32\shsxs.dll
icacls %windir%\system32\shsxs.dll /grant administrator:F
takeown /f %windir%\sysWOW64\shsxs.dll
icacls %windir%\sysWOW64\shsxs.dll /grant administrator:F
ren %windir%\sysWOW64\shsxs.dll shsxs.dll.old
ren %windir%\system32\shsxs.dll shsxs.dll.old

Trust me, I didn't mess around with the shsxs.dll file at all. Same goes for its associated Registry settings. ;)

If you have set RPEnabled to 0 like me and others (especially if you restarted Windows after the change), then try setting it to 2 this time around. Notice that I did that and haven't restarted yet so I don't know what other changes will occur after doing so.

And I don't have the Ribbon UI enabled at the moment. Other things, like the new file operation dialogs, are also disabled.

EDIT: Aero Lite is not affected by this, apparently.

Nope. Your computer is probably overheating. Look at the temps.

Interesting. When you'll do that, let us know if restarting won't cause any issues. If it will be relatively safe to do, I'd like to use it.

Question: Does anybody know why VMware workstation 8 is not installing on windows 8 WDP? I tried running it in compatability mode for W7 and running as administrator, it just shows a generic error
Quote:
---------------------------
VMware-workstation-full-8.0.0-471780
---------------------------
The MSI 'C:\Users\RE_00\AppData\Local\Temp\vmware_1316294539\vmware workstation.msi' failed.

---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

and rolls back everything.

And if so, how to correct this to make it work? I need to install VMware but i can't.

Why don't you try using VirtualBox?

Why don't you try using VirtualBox?

I have a VMWare Virtual machine i need to run, i'm not sure if its possible to run it within virtualbox. I'll see.

Nope, temps were constantly around 40-50 degrees C. I was couldn't release the mouse from the window, pressed Alt a couple of times, and it just restarted

I highly recommend to try WDP in a virtual machine before on a real machine, since it's far from complete, not even reaches beta stage.

Agreed. I have VM installs (one x32 and one x64), and a separate bare-metal installation.

The bare-metal install is for both development purposes (it's based on the DP+Tools image) and a direct comparison with 7 x64 SP1 (which has been my default).

The VMs (other than the bitness, they are identical) are a definitive bitness shootout against each other.

The biggest surprise isn't the performance, but the compatibility (with current applications, games, and hardware) and stability (so far, just one BSOD that I have not seen again).

LOL!

Sometimes I think Microsoft leaves classic stuff for us to find :)

This can be also founded in Windows 7 SP1.

What's the difference of RPEnabled 0 and 2? I've tried set it to 2 but seems it's the same with 0.

I tried too, no issues, great tip, mate. I like the new Task Manager and was disappointed to not have it without Metro. Thanks. :)

Hmm. 2 people have changed the startscreen wallpaper.
Hounsell has made it a light blue. and Panda X using the same resources or whatever has made it a blocky purple. I hope they release the files soon. I'm bored of the green!
