Hello :D This might be the greatest news of the day for some.. including me :P
So neowin states
Quote:
It's not really a surprise that Microsoft is already at work on the generation of Windows which we will call Windows 9, for now. In a recent change for Microsoft, they have begun using code names that eventually turn into the product that hits retail. For example, the code-name of Windows 7, was Windows 7, same with Windows 8 and as you would expect, the codename for Windows 9 is, you guessed it, Windows 9. Of course, Microsoft will likely refer to the next generation of Windows as Windows.next or Windows vNext too.

MsftKitchen did a bit of digging around Windows 9 and already found the moniker listed on several Microsoft employees profiles and other locations around the web. While we had little doubt that Windows 9 was already in the planning/development stages, Microsoft employees are wasting no time and are wearing Windows 9 as a badge of honor.

What would a good rumor be without conflicting information? Even though Microsoft employees may be referring to the next generation of Windows as Windows 9 or Windows vNext, Win8China is also reporting that development work has kicked off as well. But, this source is saying that Windows 9 is being called Windows Blue, or will have a sub-component by the code-name Windows Blue (translation confusion). Further, the Windows Blue moniker is said to be a new base for the Windows platform too. At this time, it is far to early to speculate if Blue will be the foundation for the next generation of Windows; Win8China expects the first build of the next gen platform to arrive in the near future.

Windows 9 development probably began months ago. Microsoft has traditionally always begun work on their next operating system before the development of the upcoming one is even close to completed.

Can't wait to see what would be the main points to focus on in Windows 9

Windows vNext We don't know what it will be called, yet. Right now we are in Post-RTM stages. UX started in may.

No one says Windows vNext. Microsoft themselves refer to it as 9, not as an official name, but rather a codename.

I am a fan of Metro in Windows 8, but I hope that in Windows 9 they find a way to unify Metro and desktop further.

True. Development of Windows Vista started in May 2001, months before XP was even released. This is because Whistler, Longhorn, and Blackcomb were already being planned out back in 2000.

I know that but I was saying that it shouldn't be referred to something that is a rumour.

It's not a rumor, Microsoft's even calling it "Windows 9" in their internal documents.

By now, the first mentioned LinkedIn profile was changed so it doesn't mention Windows 9 anymore, it was replaced by simply Windows release... So this is sort of an additional confirmation. :)

Isn't that Windows 8.5?

I think by vNext he means 9, as in Windows 9... or 8.5, as in Windows 8.5... Not sure what he means by Post-RTM though, doesn't make any sense.

Sure it does. Not long after the release of Windows 7, screenshots of builds such as Build 7700 were leaked. Builds that are compiled near immediately after an RTM of the prior product are often considered "post-RTM" builds. Also, nobody knows yet if Windows Blue is Windows "8.5" o a full blown release of Windows. It hasn't been made perfectly clear yet.

Out of curiosity, were any of those post-RTM builds of Windows 7 actually leaked? What about Windows Vista?

I'm hoping that Windows "Blue" is Windows 9, not Windows 8.5 or anything like that.

No, none of the post-RTM builds of Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7 were leaked (to BetaArchive) and I don't know if any other beta community has them either.
