The first OS I ever used was Win95, although I can't remember which version. He he.. at that time, I knew nothing about using a PC. When I wanted to play, I asked dad to power the PC for me.

I still remember that tiled background with pine trees seen through a golden frame. I also had a gorgeous screensaver with a snowy village at night-time. Ahh.. good days.

My first operating system was either Mac OS 7 or 8 (I forget) on a hand-me-down computer. I'm going to boot it back up one of these days. Hopefully, the hard drive isn't dead.

The first OS I used was Windows 3.1, and I generally liked it. The Windows Entertainement Packs installed on it, and I was most of the times playing games. I also learned how to use Word/Office/Powerpoint on it.

My first computer experience was playing Star Trek on a terminal connected to a mainframe back in 1979. It was a great game!
Still, I generally avoided computers after that. In the mid 1980s my family got an IBM PC running DOS, and I never touched it. In college all my professors were using Macs, but I was still rather anti-computer (I was a physics major, math minor, and didn't see where computers provided any help beyond typing).
All that changed one day in 1989 while reading an issue of Physics Today. I came across an add for an application that did math the way it was normally written (rather than having to translate it into some cryptic code). The application was called Theorist and only ran on Macs. I've been using Macs (and Theorist) ever since.
I later got experience with NeXT, SGI and Suns when I got a position at the National Science Foundation's Geometry Center. That pretty much set my platforms of choice since.

I used a commodore based OS, and one called ION I think it was called that but the most distinguishing feature was the keyboard with the trackball mouse built into the keyboard.

Windows 3.11 is the one I remember most because I used it heavily on my very first PC at the age of 12. Before that, I vaguely remember using either Windows 2.0 or 3.0 on my dad's computer.

Whatever OS ran on a Commodore64.. I didn't even have a floppy, I had to run my games off a tape drive, LOL. Sucked when it got unplugged accidentally and everything was lost.

I think at home was still 3.1 in 2000 , yep didnt move to 95B untill 2000, IE3 wasnt so good for the internet by then.
I can beat that, I was still using Windows 95 up until about mid 2006.
I can beat that somehow: at work we are using some quite old computers ('97 vintage) in the plant floor, I recently retired two running various flavours of 95 but the last one is still on (because of a specialized ISA card) and it is still running 4.0.950!
By the way, I am more impressed by someone running 3.1 in 2000 than 95 in 2006!
Ah, and to be back on thread, I cannot remember its name or even if it qualifies as an operating system: it was the BASIC-derived system which drove the HP9825A (http://www.hp9825.com/html/9825.html) that the maths professor let us play with (officially it was named "introduction to computers" ) during lunchtime.

And what about someone who continued using Windows 3.11 until 2004-5? I never had any need to upgrade, so when I got a new machine in 2004 or 2005, it was replacing a first-generation MMX Pentium that had about 64 meg of core and a couple of 500 meg hards. By the time I finally got rid, it was creaking, but it really did work. I even had true colour on it as some point.
