If you compare my laptop to tonynoname's laptop, it's almost similar but mine needs 8 GB of ram and an SSD to be better than his
Here's a refresh of my laptop's specifications (Also note I think the graphics card you have makes a huge difference compared to having "only" 4GB of ram.
Intel Core i5 450M (2.4GHz) 8GB DDR3 Ram Intel HD 2000 Graphics 120GB SSD Windows 8 Release Preview x64
The SSD makes a difference in almost everything! . I rarely ever use more than 20% of the ram though.

New Addition: Late 2006 Core Duo Macbook Pro. 2 GHz Intel Cure Duo 1 GB DDR2 ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB 100 GB Seagate 5.4k HDD 15.4" 1440x900 display (matte) Apple Superdrive DVD version (I wish I had the original Super Drive )
The problems with it: 1.) Failed right hand side fan. Removed it as it's just dead from being jammed and after who knows how long it burnt out. 2.) K key on the keyboard doesn't work 3.) Super Drive doesn't like to eject, but if I pull the disk out by hand I can get it out 4.) No cord or batter. Borrowing a cord for now, but need to find one eventually.

Favourite OS OS/2 Warp 4 (14.098b_W4)
Based off dumpster computer:
2.4 GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600 7 GB DDR2 ram (will soon be 8 gigs for Dual Channel ram instead of 3 identical 2 gigs and a random 1 gig chip) 500 GB Western Digital Blue (yuck) hard drive I managed to find XRL8 GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512 MB, I would love to find the 1 gig version for Adobe After Effects. Random PCI Broadcom wireless G card Happauge WinTV HVR-1800 TV Tuner Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard Raidmax Smilodon case, reset button is broken (don't care) and the power LED cable is too short to reach the motherboard. I'll fix that later.
Also, winxpguy87: Try and find a "Slocket" adapter for that machine. I have a G1 here with a 1 GHz Celeron in a Slocket that's the exact same as the 100 MHz FSB Pentium III for socket 370 but has the newer core. The one I have here is also running smoothly with a gig of ram, so that will run with more than the 768 MB Dell said, they didn't have 512 meg chips when that system was released .
I'm looking abandonware PC, preferably utilities, operating systems, CAD, word processing, spreadsheets, programming, education, etc. If you have any program or collection in CD / DVD appreciate the share. Thanks for sharing your abandonware.

DESKTOP: Gloire-CISC
Core 2 Quad Q6600
8GB of DDR3 1066
nVidia GTX 260 Core 216
750gb Hard Drive
Windows 8 Pro x64
Entering it's 6th year of service this year! This box has survived motherboard failure, sucky cases, Windows Vista and innumerable other things with flying colors.
Named after the final boss of the MS-DOS game Silpheed. Also, x64 is a CISC architecture.
TABLET: Gloire-RISC
Microsoft Surface RT 32gb w/Smart Cover
Same as Gloire, but ARM is RISC. It inherits the Gloire name because Windows RT is surprisingly similar to desktop 8 without the issues Windows 7 had on the CrapTop when it ran it.
CURRENT HTPC: The CrapTop
The HP Tx2 i alluded to a while back in the 'Worst Computer Experiences' thread, was my main laptop before it got too unstable for that sort of use.
4gb of DDR2 Something-or-another
Turion 2 Dual-Core
Linux Mint 13 w/XBMC
250gb Storage
Dying GPU
This machine is terrible, and a stopgap until Piz Gloria is completed.
HTPC-TO-BE: Piz Gloria
4gb of DDR3 (tenative, don't have this part yet)
AMD A4-3400 APU
500gb Storage (Tentative once again, will be finalized when i order the Hard Drive)
AsRock A75M-ITX
Ubuntu Linux with XBMC and possibly Steam For Linux
Windows 8, Steam Big Picture and XBMC once i've upgraded it to it's fullest
Named after the Swiss Restaurant that features heavily in the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service, alluding to the video-centric usage. I do not get cable in my room which is more or less why the box is necessary...
Target Price: Sub-$500 for the basic config.

Location Where do you want to go today?
Favourite OS All Microsoft operating systems!
And today, I'm going to try to download the Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation to install on an identical system that I received from my grandfather, so that I'll have a supported version of Windows 8 to last me until I finally purchase my new PC.
I'll first download it (I'll see if it's possible, it might not be, since I had a lot of trouble understanding the descriptions when asked to set up my email account the last time I tried it), and if I have any trouble downloading it, I'll have to get someone to help me.
Then, I'll burn it to a DVD, install it on my system, and copy over my user account data and applications (I'll even be sure to take screenshots of my current desktop and Start screen so that I'll be able to restore my settings).
Finally, I'll test everything out to make sure it works, and then I will have finally upgraded from the Release Preview! The 90 day preview may be time limited, but at least it should last me until I finally get my new PC.

Must be pretty fast. Did you not have enough money for 2x2gb? Or did the shop sell you the last 2x2gb pack ? That would've been more economical future upgrade wise.
it is been a faithful steed, my GTX 280 still keeps up just fine with the newer games .....
I purchased the Memory through NewEgg [well everything]
