Although I use Windows 8 as my main operating system, I have an installation of Windows Vista stored on my system in a dual boot configuration.
The reason for this is because my current system originally came with Windows Vista (shortly before Windows 7 shipped), yet when I finally received it, I was using it almost exclusively for my Windows 8-related projects, which is why I installed Windows 8 on it. However, Windows Vista is still excellent as a maintenance operating system, which was especially the case back when I was doing the Windows 9x "half" of my project (for "re-beta testing" Windows, that is), since it served as an excellent base for my Virtual PC, as well as for extracting .RAR archives (note that this was before I found the fix to allow Virtual PC to run properly within Windows 8/Server 2012).
There are quite a number of Windows Vista systems in use today, as almost anyone knows, however, in my experience, most people who upgraded to Windows Vista later upgraded to Windows 7. But really, Windows Vista in many ways defined the modern concept of Windows, so it was obviously an extremely important release of Windows.

I've actually been tempted to revert back to Vista. I do kind of miss its color scheming and Aero (<3 gloss black taskbar)...might have to dig up a laptop to install it on.

I'm still waiting for Who's still using Windows 95?" thread.
I have windows 98 in the garage and would perfer to use that instead of vista, the vista I am using is unstable
- I get a tablet driver error sometimes - the volvume icon in the taskbar sometimes doesn't show - sometimes the hp advisor program is buggy -sometimes the volume mute/unmute button doesn't do anything
I perfer old over new kinda since vista didn''t work out for many since they should of worked on it more and tested it out

I still using Vista in my workstation and on a virtual machine on my laptop with main os Windows 8 Pro. The reason that I am using Windows 8 instead of Vista is just I can't (I want but I can't :/). And I can't bacause I can't install drivers for my nVidia graphics processor because Vista is only detecting the Intel card /Optimus didn't run with Vista/ and now with the new motherboard I can disable the nVidia, but not the Intel card. Creepy situation.

Never had Windows Vista on my PC, I'm using XP SP3 despite having updated the PC last year. I use XP until a while more and when I have compatibility problems will put Windows 7 SP1.

Vista was good. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot, misinformed, or doesn't know as much as they think they know. The only reason Vista is "bad" is because the minimum requirements as set forth by Microsoft are a 900mhz PIII with 512MB of RAM. That'll run Vista, but it'll be incredibly slow. Guess what OEMs did? They released 1GHz computers wth 512MB RAM running Vista.
Oops.
Also, various OEMs were seriously lazy about making good drivers for Vista, so the poorly-written ones they DID release created a load of bluescreens. Not Microsoft's fault, just the OS doing its job.
The only problems with Vista were the UAC was a bit intrusive, and it introduced Microsoft's pre-loading feature that led to more RAM usage (but there was a benefit as the RAM was being used as a pre-cache for applications so they would load and run faster), but this was easily changeable to be similar to Windows XP's RAM usage.
Not to mention I think Aero in Windows Vista is absolutely gorgeous compared to 7. I hate 7's taskbar so much.

I have Vista installed on 2 of my test rigs. I found that Windows Movie Maker will only allow one the edit audio clips in Vista, doesn't work in W7. According to THIS site. I used it in my Holidays greeting slideshow in 2012, it worked as advertised. Think I'll keep Vista.

I have run Windows Vista on only a Pentium 4 with 512 MB of RAM, and it ran quite well actually. This was back when I was preparing for my Windows 8-related projects and review (the latter of which never actually came about apart from the mini-reviews that I did about the earlier builds), since I decided that I still needed to install Windows Vista and Windows 7 first to get more experience with newer versions of Windows and to be able to distinguish old features and changes from those that were first introduced in Windows 8, since I was still quite attached to Windows 2000 and XP both at that time.
I've also seen YouTube videos of such low powered systems running Windows Vista and Windows 7 quite well (even below Microsoft's official recommendations!), and infact, there are even instructions on how to install Windows 7 on an Asus Eee PC 900 (!), even on ones that only have a 7 GB SSD! I mean, to install either version of Windows on such a low powered system may seem like a contradiction of terms, but believe me, it's been done. You would be surprised at how well people have gotten at least Windows 7 (and probably also Windows Vista) to run on older and lower powered systems.
Not that it's nearly as fast as on a new PC, of course not. But, back when he was new here, linuxlove installed Windows 7 (not sure about Vista) on a Pentium III system at 650 Mhz. He actually made it quite usable from what I saw, but the point is that many people have run Windows Vista and Windows 7 quite well on old hardware, even though it's still best obviously on a modern PC.
Now, as for installing Windows Vista or Windows 7 on a Pentium II or lower, now that's quite a different story...

I use it on my secondary machine. There is nothing wrong with it. I once used it on a Pentium III system (it ran fast). Vista is actually quite high on my list of best operating systems.

Vista has been running in my home desktop for totally 5 years, though I am able to use that PC only when summer or winter holidays these days. Since I bought that PC, Vista was pre-installed on it, but I performed some reinstallations afterwards.
Despite I don't regard Vista as the best OS, I do think it's a nice one.

Nah. I've seen laptops that ran Vista with 384 MB RAM. That is below the minimum requirements, in fact, Vista won't even install with this little memory. To this date I wonder how the OEM managed to achieve that. To put the icing on the cake, that laptop also had Norton Antivirus installed.
Of course, people are quick to blame it on Vista - but really, with this kind of setup, whose fault is it?

I am not, by any means, saying it isn't possible to use it on a low-powered system, I'm saying that your average person is going to bog that thing down like none other. Computers I've run Vista or 7 on:
ASUS EEEPC 900 Pentium III/600 Pentium III/1.1GHz Pentium III/550 Athlon XP 1600+ Pentium M 1.6GHz
And on the EEEPC I am currently running Win7 as my main OS off of a 32gb SD Card. Does it work? Yes. But if I was an everyman I would absolutely hate it, especially in a world where iTunes and Youtube are two of the most common tasks done by people. Want to do either of those on that machine? Good [censored] luck.
