I need an image organizer for Windows. Just about every one I've tried has failed to meet my expectations. This is the situation: I have a directory with 841 images in it and I want to organize them all. This is what I need in the software:
Must be offline
Ability to tag/categorize images, add one image to multiple tags/categories
Tag searching (ie. searching for "longhorn" returns all images tagged with "longhorn")
Ability to import all images in a given directory
Queries the directory for new images every time it's run
Must be freeware, not shareware/trial/nagware
Got any tips? Picasa3 is probably going to be one of the first recommendations, but that failed because it only imported 716 images out of the directory's 841 images - all images are either JPEG or PNG.

Apart from Picasa and Windows Live Gallery, I can only think of Adobe Lightroom, but thats not free. There are others but my current favourite is Picasa-due to face tagging etc. but I have a beta of Adobe Lightroom I use every now and then, and its pretty good. I don't really like Live Gallery or some of the others I've tried
Why wouldn't Picasa import all images? Picasa should be able to find all jpegs and pngs... and it has:
Offline with ability to sync. online
Ability to tag/categorize images, add one image to multiple tags/categories+face tagging
Tag searching+other options
Queries the directory for new images every time it's run or you can set it to only search a particular directory once

Cant you just use explorer to sort them yourself? I know its gonna be a pain in the *** but I sort them out before I even save them. All my Wallpapers in their folders, all the stuff I made or edited is in its folder, the pics I've taken is in its folder, etc. By the way, cant you import the images it didn't import before? Wouldn't it ask you if you wanted to reimport the images it already had and if you clicked no, wouldn't it just import the ones it didn't?

But then you would need to have either multiple copies of the same file, or links instead of files... Although I generally use Explorer, when you want multiple tags for a given picture, you really need an organizer.
All the photos I take are ordered into files by month, with RAW files separate, ie. 2012.01, 2012.02, 2012.03, and, RAW-2012.01, RAW-2012.02, RAW-2012.03. Some of those files might have 700 photos in them, and I really don't want to sort them differently in Explorer, so I use Picasa to find stuff etc.

Picasa is the best, it's fast, the UI is great and it has a lot of cool features like upload to FTP *very useful*, face recognition etc
