Like, have you ever just let your mind just wander and write, regardless of whatever the thing you wrote was about?

I don't know why, but the urge to write came over me earlier. I didn't really care what it was about, whether it came together in any particular way, or whatever, but I just... wrote. I didn't give much thought to it... I just let my mind wander and my hands did the rest. I wanted to share what I had written with you guys to see what your thoughts are on it. I'm not looking for any real critique, just kinda throwing this out there to see what you got from it.

My writing starts below:

The sounds of quacking came from the clouds up above. Under the shadow of what was the ever-growing fig tree, I was curious to see what laid within the bark.

Strangely, I remembered that my closest friend, Ben, had been chiseling away at the tree for about a few hours now. From the looks of it, he had just woken up from his daily, yet always late, 2-hour nap. If there's one thing I know, you never want to talk to him when he's going on one of his chiseling sessions. I don't know why he does this, but for some reason, he seems to take joy in making mysterious carvings. Why, I remember one time, he made what appeared to be some fractal-looking thing, though I wasn't entirely sure what it was. It, however, still mesmerized me, nonetheless.

I sat on the bank of Lake Evermore as I pondered life's challenges and struggles. I fell back into the grass and let the smell of the poppies that surrounded me soothe me ever so. My eyes looked up into the starry night, creating constellations of ancient creatures, beings, and objects that I could call my own -- ones that reflected my own strengths and weaknesses. I don't know of anyone else that does this, but to me, it makes me feel… almost serene, in a way. I'm still at a loss as to why I do this, but it's quite satisfying.

One creature -- an eagle, which I called Soraponus -- I declared to be a symbol of the freedom and strength -- the two very things that seem to elude me every day. It seemed as though no matter what I did to assert myself, I always seemed to be trapped in this sort of cage… A cage that asserted its dominance, no matter how much I tried to escape its clutches. My desire to spread my wings -- to fly in the open, blue sky like all of life's other eagles -- was so very great. Given all that I feel, I'm not even sure where the fuel to this flame comes from… but somehow, I manage to find enough of it to get me through each and every day of the trial that everyone calls life.

More and more time under the starry night sky reminded me of my ever increasing curiosity of the ever-growing fig tree. I decided to make my way back to the flat and see if Ben was still there. I put my back towards the back wall of the house, turned around, and peered at the tree. From the looks of things, he had probably gone inside to engage in his nightly ritual of drinking the night away -- two shots here, and maybe 3 beers there, and maybe a huge bottle of whiskey to top it all off.

My body headed towards the fig tree. The moonlight gave it a complexion which put me… almost in a sort of trance. I have yet to understand what exactly it is that lures me to this tree, but I only know that there was indeed something mysterious about it.

I walked once around the tree to inspect its externalities. When I neared the end of the inspection, however, I noticed something that had not been there before: a tree hollow. What was unusual about it was that it was large enough that you could actually put your whole head in there. Initially, I hadn't thought much of it. From the looks of it, there didn't seem to be much to this tree than I had suspected. Disappointed by this, I turned around and made my way towards the house -- that is, until I heard something from the tree hollow.

It was a voice… a weird voice. It certainly did not sound human, but in a way, it almost had this human sounding quality to it. Curiosity ever increasing, I went back to the tree to see what produced such a mysterious, almost dark tone. As I came closer to it, I heard the voice call out, "If you wish to understand the secrets that lie within… accept the quest that sits in front of you." I became slightly scared, but knowing that I was right in there being some secret about this tree had me going. I wasn't quite sure what laid ahead of me. I stuck my head into the tree hollow, and a quiet came over me. Before I knew, I had been sucked in by a powerful force, and landed in a world that I thought no human could ever have imagined existed.

I also often enjoy spending time writing bits and bobs however I often end up throwing away most of what I write either because it's too "normal" and expected or because it's just plain bad... Most cases it's the latter. If I remember correctly there are some bits I have at home which I'll pull out though it should be noted that either they're really old or extremely short. There was one I wrote quite recently which I was intended to try and get some inspiration for a project but it didn't really end up going anywhere and it's incredibly short but I suppose it has given me at least a few new ideas however to be quite honest actually it's difficult to let your mind wander when working on some projects else you'll forget your bounds which is a shame as a lot of that creativity ends up going to waste... Er- but yeah I'll see what I can find when I get home today.

I'm certainly interested as to what others will post, I'm not good at it but writing certainly interests me :)

Same here. I write when I am extremely bored. Right now I have a (horrible :$ ) story in progress about an alien race of sorts, but I'll probably never finish it. :?
