Been in a Longhorn mood recently. Let's have a few wallpapers.
1600x1200 Standard Vista 5048 wallpaper. Not sure if the one packed in the WIM was at this resolution. It looks really good when set as the lock screen in Windows 8.
Everyone knows about this wallpaper, right? Of course, no one uses 800x600 these days. So have some high-resolution versions instead: Unbranded, 1600x1000
I couldn't find any versions of the branded wallpaper higher than 1024x768, so I reconstructed it:

Worth pointing out that the "high resolution" versions of the second wallpaper seems to have a different color profile than the "official" 800x600 one. It's most noticeable when you compare the blue stripes.

Yeah, it does. I tried correcting the colors once and it didn't work too well. I'll play around more in the photo editor to see if I can get close to the "official" wallpaper.

I tried to make it as close to the original as possible without removing a lot of quality.
Looks nice; I just can't stand all the JPEG compression artifacts -.- They're probably in the unbranded wallpaper, but I don't notice it since it's light.

Yes, they are in the unbranded wallpaper. It's brightness is high, but they are noticeable.

A good way to ridden the artifacts is to blend them in, or blur them out. Make it work. If possible I can make a sample.
Edit: I think it's ok, Others will think it stinks... What do you think? I've just noticed the artifact chunk to the left of the picture... Can't clean that one up as much.

I see you blurred the bar making it fit in with the rest of the picture.

Here is the wallpaper for Build 5001 (compilation date of September 27th, 2004, one of the earlier Omega-13 builds, basically Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 with all references, at least in the Client counterpart, changed to "Windows lh" instead of "Windows xp"):
I found this wallpaper on DevianArt. I hope you find it interesting, since the early Omega-13 builds are very important as far as Longhorn's development was concerned.

If you're referring the wallpaper that I posted (basically, just a modified version of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003's Bliss wallpaper), then it was just the way I found it while searching online. Also, any image can be enlarged to a larger screen resolution, that is, if you would like to use it for some reason.
Finally, you must remember that the early Omega-13 builds of Longhorn (most notably Build 3790.1232 and Build 5001) were so close in functionality to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 that they were still very much usable in only 800x600 screen resolution mode, due to the absence of nearly the entire Longhorn feature set itself, so if Microsoft's copy of the above wallpaper was an actual 800x600 resolution bitmap image, then it should be no surprise, especially considering that as far as I know, the unmodified Bliss wallpaper was also an 800x600 resolution image.

Yes, I'm referring to your wallpaper. I remember my first days with computing, I'm still having the monitor that I used at that time (although I don't use it anymore) and it was 1024x768, being that time 2003. EDIT : Forgot to mention, but the monitor is LCD.
