Do this without trial and error.

Thought it would take longer time to solve. You are right Kenneth, and to be precise: x=3,352823623213308
But please tell me, how did you solve it?

Either using a calculator or logarithms (for an exact answer).

Why are you asking?

This is bugging me now... can anyone see where I'm going wrong? It's been a while since I've touched logs.

2^x + 3^x = 50
ln(2^x) + ln(3^x) = ln50
xln2 + xln3 = ln50
x(ln2 + ln3) = ln 50
x(ln6) = ln50
1.792x = 3.91
x= 2.182

How come I'm getting an incorrect answer then? I didn't think it matter if I chose Ln, or Log10, or Log2 as long as I'm consistant.

Edited: It will suck :( Looks like it's not solvable by ln or log, it needs Integration/derivation

Erm no... it's not solvable by exact means. Not everything's solution can be written exactly, take cos(x) = x for example.
