Lol, what do you call 'crap ware'?
anything that comes with the computer that is worthless, trial software, norton antivirus (my opinion) trial game programs, I can't think of anything else at the moment, but anything I can find free alternatives for.

P.S. I do NOT recommend to fix a customized boot, logon screen or shutdown screen, since it will slow your computer.

lol, Install Symantec ?
You may as well not install any AV !
You never know when you get any viruses.
I think he is trying to get at the fact symantec is not the best antivirus software out there. Or there is better things out there for free...

I dunno, I only get AVs for my physical PC's. My VM's don't have virus protection. You never know when you get any viruses.

I can tell you a little bit about AntiVirus programs (what I think)
* Avast - doesnt work on my computer (odd). * AVG - I don't use that because I dont like it. * Avira - Doesn't work. * Panda - Blocks almost every site i go into. * Norton - You'll have to buy it! (otherwise, good) * Symantec - My dad had a version that worked and wasn't really used quite often, so I could have it.

For goodness sakes, people! There's always pros and cons to every antivirus!

depends on which system I use
on my windows machines: 1. Connect to my WiFi network 2. Download antivirus software 3. Install and update drivers 4. Download other apps (Steam, iTunes etc.) and run Windows Update 5. Copy my personal files from my external hard drive
on my Macintoshs I don't do step 2 and 3 because it's unnecessary and instead of runing Windows Update, I just open Apples software update and I'm ready to go

Download a new theme and uninstall this ugly bad stupid mess of KDE Oxygen. The rest is irrelevant. But this is the most important step. And move the taskbar to the top

1. Install drivers. On my laptop, I skip this - all the devices are autodetected and drivers are autoinstalled 2. Install the latest nightly of Chromium. 3. Install games. 4. Install mIRC. 5. Install Avast.

I don't really get steps 1 and 4. What's a pc card and how can you set up programs and backup before making a user account?
Shift+F10 to open a command prompt during OOBE, plug in a external hard drive/insert a CD, and install away.

I do things differently for Windows 9x:
1. Install Drivers (Sound, VMWare Tools, etc) 2. Install Microsoft Plus (if any) 3. Customize away! 4. Try to Setup Networking (and fail epically because networking just won't work no matter how hard I try) 5. Install some software and/or abandonware.

1. Get aditional drivers if needed, 2. Activation (if needed), 3. Antivirus (usually MSE), 4. Windows updates, 5. MS Office and other software (other ms programs are updated at later time)

Forget about activation? When the time's up, Windows won't let you use it.

There's also NOD32, Bitdefender, kaspersky, all of them are really good.
