I want to change the Build Tag shown on the Windows XP desktop without using any Tools. I have already tried by modifiyng the win32k.sys, but this does not work.

Modifying Win32k.sys does work, but you need to edit it using PE Explorer or something similar, Resource Hacker breaks the file
