Codename Chrometro is a Windows Forms web browser project inspired by the MoSH (Modern Shell), formerly the Metro UI, developed using VB.NET.
Download links are available under the 'Releases' section

What's special about it?
The special part is that you get the Windows 8 MoSH on your Windows 7 or Vista PC. If you have Windows 8, you get a MoSH browser for the desktop, which in some fields, performs better than Internet Explorer.
At present, it uses WebKit, the same that Google Chrome and Apple Safari use. It delivers quite cool performance (check out the HTML5 test results below), however, this might change in the near future. ;)

Why do you call it Chrometro?
As the name suggests, it's Chrome + Metro. Not Chrome, the browser.
Basically, Metro apps (now called Modern apps) are said to be chromeless. Desktop apps have chrome. So, it's a fusion or a blend of both. That is, Metro with a chrome. And, it gives you full focus over the web page. The entire screen is yours. Not even the taskbar comes in between, in the Metro mode, though it still preserves the convenience of being a desktop app.

What cool features should I watch out?
Well, this project is still in alpha stage. There's a lot roadmapped, but even more will come with time, if things go as expected. The Technical Preview, shows off the UX of this app, mainly. It has a lack of functionality, but it's at least better than the rule of three and practice put together.. :P
Yep, there will also be tabs. But not so soon.

What exactly does 'Metro' or 'MoSH' mean?
Well, to be precise, MoSH or Modern Shell (formerly Metro) is an eloquent, simple, clean, modern, fast, fluid, beautiful, crisp and elegant look. It focuses more on content. It means, that the web page will be more important for you. The minimal UI gets further minimized when you don't need it. *hehe*
A good key component of Modern UI, has always been touch support. So, if you're using Windows 7 or 8 with a touch device, this will be perfect for you. To feel that you're actually touching it, a touch (pardon the pun) of innovation has been added. The buttons behave and feel just like the ones on Windows Phone. ;)

Releases

Platform Preview Build 1175 (Released August 20, 2012)
Technical Preview Build 1102 (Released August 3, 2012)
Developer Preview Build 812 (Released June 17, 2012)
Community Technology Preview Build 222
(Released March 30, 2012)

Like the Facebook Page now, for updates, news on the development and screenshots of Codename Chrometro, ;)

Legend:
Supported Build (Latest)
Supported Build
Unsupported Build (No longer available for download)

Please note that the current releases are highly primitive.

System Requirements (Might change anytime)

Software
Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
Microsoft C++ 2005 Redistributable
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (Full)

Hardware
A monitor with a screen resolution of at least 1024x768 pixels.
80 MB of free hard disk space. An additional 50 MB if you're installing Codecs Pack.

At last, I'd like to present my special thanks to DeFacto, Vic and Taha for their sincere help with this project until now.
You all know this is not a one-man job, but unfortunately, its just me, yet. If anyone is interested, please contact me. :)

It's nice to see WebKit being used instead of IE for a change.

Did someone already make a version of the Windows 8 RTM skin for Windows 8 RC?

Is this Windows Forms? Shame if it is - WPF is much better for this sort of stuff.

Also, I'm sure you could squeeze it in the client profile if you're careful.

I would like to join the dev team, prayaas. Or at least I can help test private builds....

Cool, another custom browser that looks like Metro. Can't wait to test it out. Has DeFacto helped you make it-it looks a lot like Poseidon.

Read the post. Its not Chrome frame in metro in trident (whatever that means). Its not an OS like Chromium.

Its a browser designed to look Metroish (like Poseidon), that uses the WebKit engine (unlike Poseidon).

1. Chromium CAN be EITHER OS OR Browser. Read the basics.
2. I have been joking on the Google Chrome Frame in Metro in Trident, however the WebKit engine is the Chromium BROWSER>>>>>

Webkit engine does not equal Chromium browser. Chromium uses the WebKit engine, as does Safari.

But apparently Chromium is also an OS Browser (Open Source *hehe* ), so you got me there.

Okay, so that's Metro UI-ized WebKit engine.

The engine has absolutely nothing to do with the UI.

One could maybe say that it is a metro-themed wrapper for the Webkit engine.

Whoa! A whole lot of questions.. I'll answer them all at once.. ;D

Nope, my friend. Unfortunately, that's a part of the browser UI. It was created by me. So, it's like Metro for non-Metro guys..

Yep. It is Windows Forms. I actually have little experience with WPF, and I don't plan soon to start it from scratch.. :(
Some of the components are provided by a 3rd party DLL, WindowsFormsAero, and it requires .NET 4 (Full)

No. It's none. Google Chrome is based on the WebKit engine. It's WebKit in this UI.

DeFacto's help has been remarkable. He helped with bits of code. However, the UI and all is created by me. As I said earlier, the UI is not complete yet. When you'll test it, you'll see how it differs from Poseidon. ;)
The app has been created with the motive of providing each and every component from the Metro look, to the desktop. Including the round buttons which IE10 Metro has.. :)

OK. Can't wait to test it then! Just from the screenshot it looked a lot like Poseidon, but I'm sure its different once we get to test it.

I hope its that way.. Since I'm on a stage too early to be good enough, the thing is not even half feature complete.
I myself can't wait to publish the first public build soon.. :) Hopefully, it should be ready in a couple of days..
Until then, I will keep on posting my progress here. ;)

What do I do about this now?

Happening since I installed Office 2013. And I re-ran the VS setup to repair it. Nothing gets fixed.

@prayaas1998, which version of VS are you running, mines going fine with Office 2013 Preview-or does that only happen when you load the program.

I'm using VS11. Nevermind, got it fixed by installing "July 2012 Update for Visual Studio 2012"
LOL @ your offtopic comment. *hehe*

BTW, another teaser soon. :)

He ran into problems which he only solved yesterday (could have read the posts). I'd say a couple days from now-unless he's got other stuff to do now.

smartboyhw, not that long. If things go fine, then probably in the first week of August.

Check this out!
Image

Cool enough? ;)
This is more than IE10!
The engine is OpenWebKitSharp, which scores just 309+2.
Thanks to my "HTML5 codecs pack for Chrometro" which I'm working on, that this score has massively improved!
I'll soon be adding more details to the O.P. :)
