DD-WRT doesn't void the warranty, and you can't 100% brick a Linksys router. There are always ways to recover it, but it's a horrible process to have to go through so it's best to get it right the first time.
I think it does. Some companies wont support a router you bricked because you were a moron and didnt check the compatibility list.

Its been 24 hours. This WRT54GL is the best router ever!
I am getting over 20MB/s on speedtest.com on wireless, WOW! Before when my router was working good, i was usually getting around 7 or 8, which was still plenty. Im not even supposed to get above 10 MB/s since i have roadrunner standard. Right now Im getting roadrunner turbo speeds. Probably due to all that HQ cable they put in since we thought it was a weak signal before and it turns out it was the router.
What to do with my old Netgear router? Its not reliable enough to use or give to a friend. Even with 1 computer on wired it would still act up? Anything i can do with this besides salvaging the antenna? Its too old to support DD-WRT and had the latest firmware from 2005. It still broadcasts good, maybe i could make a wifi jammer, maybe figure out how to overclock it until it starts on fire! LOL

Open Youtube, that should set it alight
Seriously, netgear are terrible. My ISP have prevented people using netgear equipment properly on their network, dedication

I should take it outside (i have a big backyard), plug it into an extension cord connected to a GFCI (in case something goes wrong) and perform some "tests". Meanwhile I will have my laptop close by, but in a safer location, connected to it. Well see how long it keeps a wireless signal going.

I would get a decent ISP, like Version FIOS or Level3 Internet
Read the posts, the issue has been resolved, it was a faulty router. Also being out in the country I dont have many choices like people living in or near a city do. Verizon will never put in fiber lines here, theres just not enough population. Im lucky enough to even have cable where I am. The only other choice is DSL, but I am kind of locked in to my cable plan all in one pricing. At least its not as bad as dial up was, there was ONE, count it, one company who had local #s (unless you wanted to pay long distance) and they were always disconnecting.
But it all works now thanks to my new router. Thanks for the help, though.
