Hello guys, I'm not quite sure if this belongs in the Computer Discussion forum or not... but anyway...
This is my review on the first good pair of headphones I have purchased, Audio-Technica ATH-M50's with the straight cable.
Aesthetics/Comfort/Quality:
I bought these cans for $132... which is the first plus since this was a heck of a deal for the amazingness of these headphones. Out of the box, I could immediately tell these were quality headphones, they are slightly heavy (which is a good thing in my opinion), and really solid; a nice mixture of metal and durable feeling plastic. The silver ring adds a nice relief from all the black. The cable is thick, and the jack has a spring reinforcing it, and gold connectors. From wearing them for hours, I used to get a bit of head fatigue, but that doesn't seem to be the case now. For the most part, they're pretty dang comfortable, the clamping force takes a bit of getting used to, but it's fine with me.
SOUND:
The sound from these things is amazing. Nothing compares (well, maybe cans costing more than $300). I've tried beats, skullcandies, bose, they all suck compared to these. Beats have muddy, ghetto bass in my opinion, and way too much. The M50's still have plenty; actually a lot more bass than many headphones, but the bass they have is clean, deep, and smooth. All headphones I've tried always have had something wrong with them. Bose's always seem to have overcolored sound, beats always seem to have muddy, overstated bass that overtakes everything else, and skullcandies are lacking in the mids and highs. While these are all still good headphones, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50S always seemed to beat them somewhere, so that's why I bought them. The frequency response on these is awesome. I can run my EQ flat, and it's perfect. They can have more bass than the beats if you want, but you need something more powerful to drive them with. The mids and highs on these things are insane. I really don't have much to say... they've amazed me in every way, and I would be willing to pay a hundred more for them if I had to. Buy these. They're amazing.
