PowerPoint or any other Windows only application (there's a lot out there!)

I suggest these depending on your most uses:
GAMING: Windows 7 (do not use 8, as about 90% of games are not working even in compatibility mode)
BUSINESS: Windows 7 or 8 really...
PERSONAL (internet, photoshop, etc): Windows 7 or 8.
I would say that by the time Windows 8 comes out the games will work on it, so Windows 8 would really be your preferred option for gaming, business and personal use.
I agree with how light this OS will be for average hardware.
Like i said before though, it would be good as a successor in the Windows Mobile series as a tablet OS, but not windows. This metro craze has to stop. I know when i end up buying a 100% new PC and if it has Windows 8, im downgrading to 7.
8 will be better for gaming though, giving that the OS is so light, It will run smoothly on my Old Dell Optiplex GX270 Tower with 1GB of ram and a Pentium 4!

The best gaming windows OS`s in my opinion are Windows Fundamentals for legacy PC`s and Windows Thin PC, since there stripped down versions of XP and 7.

Also, Windows Thin PC/Windows Embedded Standard 7 can be just as heavy as plain old Windows 7, it just depends on what image you build and deploy.
True about thin PC i guess, but ive always had luck with Windows FLP and games. The only problem with FLP was that lots of core services were removed.
I don't get why people are like "I'm gonna stay with 7" just because the UI doesn't look that good. 8 will be perfect for gaming (because once OEM comes out all games will adapt to it) and this OS Makes 7 look like Vista (Hardware stress wise)

I don't see why you're always putting down older OS'es. XP is still supported until 2014, so it isn't such a bad choice for older PCs.
Old PCs, sure. New PCs? You must be joking if you're still using Windows XP.
Some people have to. Not everyone is a spoiled rich kid or has a good job, so they have older computers. I still know someone who still has a 98 machine because he cant afford a new one. Sad.

They probably have to look for alternatives like Lubuntu, at least they are more secure than Windows 98 or even Windows XP, and have nearly the same speed of using.
Also, I'll probably move to Windows 8, but disable the Metro interface and use the classic start menu. Again for me the tiles are too big and it's hard to navigate with the mouse.

My family used to hold the opinion that a computer should be kept using until it could not be powered on anyway though we did can afford a plentily new one, and that was the reason why a year-2001 PC with Pentium 4 and 128M RAM remained for service until early 2008, running like snail with Windows XP (originally it had got Windows 98 then Windows ME, and I installed XP in the year 2003). It was a really hard time for me to get another mainstream PC (that Pentium E2160 one with 2GB RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled).

Oh and i also have this laptop with Windows 2000 SP4, that wont accept anything over it due to it being slow, but i love 2000, so i dont care. I MIGHT be able to install neptune to it, never tried, but i should. Neptune was also a great OS. Beta, But great, and stable.

I wouldn't try installing too much stuff on Neptune. Apps/drivers for Win2k SP4 don't work well.

Already did. All drivers were installed out of the box, and it has firefox running on it. Pretty fast too, but in firefox the screen lags when i scroll down. Oh well, its not my everyday computer, so i dont care, its really just a spare.
