A while back in March of 2011, I was working on a small project known as Management Console. In April, no more updates were released, and I abandoned it. But now, I restarted work on it, and now have a decent version out for preview! Management Console (Now known as SimpleShell) is a lightweight, easy to use, free shell for MS-DOS 5.x - 6.x. The disk included is bootable, simply load it, boot your VM or real machine, read the ReadMe if you really want to, and press Any key to load SimpleShell. Type HELP to view commands and ABOUT to view about info.

I assume you're using QuickBASIC again? What do the error codes mean, are they numbers returned from ERR?

Yes, they are. I will attempt to make it simpler in the future by giving a description of the error encountered. Right now the error code is for developer use :p

I use it. Problem? xD
I use only to play old games. Better than running in a emulator :)

Maybe he's just building it for fun. Why not? Not every project has to have a purpose. Patrick, I'll dl it and tell you if I run into anything weird.

Ok first off, in case you haven't noticed it's an Alpha, development has only recently started and he may exhibit more features including File Management at a later time. Second off, It's not an Operating System, it's not suppost to be compared to one, that's like me comparing a drill bit to a drill. They're not the same.

I will! 0.41 is now a stable build, with file managing capabilities and a new and improved Calculator ;)
I will release another preview this week, hopefully when the TicTacToe application is fixed :)

EDIT : Here's a pic of the file managing capabilities :)

I'm going to download this and go test it on my 486 DX2-66 with 16 megs ram and get back to you, see how it runs outside of an emulator\virtualizer.

Well, maybe it can be considered a replacement for COMMAND.COM...

Absolutely not it can't. Anything made in QuickBASIC needs COMMAND.COM.

The bootdisk in the download link launches simpleshell directly, instead of having to type in SIMPSHELL.exe at the prompt.

Also, due to limitations the Tic-Tac-Toe game has been scrapped, and is now being replaced with BlackJack :)

No, because this is not an operating system.

Bump-bump! I'm now releasing versions on my website at http://patster21.tk

Check back there for new updates, releases and blog posts!

A question for you moderators out there: According to the rules of BetaArchive, you may not post links to "irrelevant" personal web sites. Does this allow for posting of personal websites that are relevant to the topic?
