Actually FileZilla is very easy to set up with just a few clicks. The tutorial was also written by me on the link so it should be easy to follow.

I totally agree. Don´t forget to create a folder and a user to access. You have to probably open a router port (sometimes is LAN > Port Forwarding configuration).

I use TypSoft FTP server which is lighter than Filezilla server, but it cannot handle very large files (>4 GB)

Windows 7 (for now) full release
Tip: If you can't make your server work outside your LAN then try to set up your server on some other port (not 21 or 12) then it should work. ;) at least it worked for me. :D

If your IP is dynamic, I recommend that you use a site like DynDNS so you don't have to keep giving a new IP.

Oh yeah, it's safe. All FTP lets you do is upload and download files.

there are ways of setting filezilla server up to only allow downloads or uploads just click on the user button and click on the shared folders button select the user name that you want to restirct to just downloading click the sharded folder check the read, list, +listsub options and it will only allow the user to download.

This seems to be a good guide. It's Time for me to upgrade from Serv-U to FileZilla.

Reading that tutorial and wonder why nobody mention FTPS. In my opinion sometimes using secure connection and transfer's we shouldn't ignore.

In my company we allowing secure connection for any data transfer only, no exception.
