Greetings gentlecolts
After a very very long long time, i finally decided its time to take the plunge. And to reward myself, i came up with something thats basically just a lame, glorified userbar. It took a very long time to build as i had to search after effects CS6 from top to bottom just to know that scumbag adobe had deleted the feature to export to GIF animations back in CS5(well, i never bothered to look back then). After getting an imagemagick script to do the work for me. Although i finally succeeded, i was a bit astounded to see the file size, 1.86 MBs. Is this value normal? is it anything to be afraid of with the new 1 MMBPS and 8 MBPS downlinks we see today?
{IMAGE REMOVED, SEE LAST POST}

Yes, 1.86MB is normal for a GIF image. I know a couple people here are still using dialup, and some days I feel I'm on dialup as well...

Well, you should try optimizing it, it will lower the filesize.

Congrats. Trying to view this page over RDP on my home connection just got difficult.

GIFs are pretty poor for compression - APNG would be better for your use, but obviously, it's far less widely supported.

I noticed that, now only if i could get chrome users to install https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... mnpckdbblp so that it gets widely supported
EDIT: Upon closer investigation, i figure dthe best i'd get would be around 2.5 mb in file-size with APNG

I did try doing so but the results were far beyond being worth for the distortion caused

No it's not normal if you use a program that will compress it. Most will make subsequent frames just the changes from the last which saves a lot over each frame. I used to use a tool years ago that would do this but it was a 16bit program so subsequently doesn't work on 64bit windows, so I never used it since.

I just noticed that the background noise kind of flickers too. Does Photoshop or your export thingy use "temporal dithering" (I'm not sure if it's called like that) or did you do the noise by purpose? I'd guess that this would render GIF's compression ineffective, so you could check if there's an option for that or test if it's smaller when you use solid colors only.
If nothing works out, ditch the animation. Animated GIFs hardly add value. If you really need movement use a video, if it's for a signature avoid moving stuff because it's distracting. Just my 0.02 <insertcurrencynobodyknows>.

I think that a GIF that size is a little excessive, but it should be nothing to worry about.

I did not think of that, i got it down to 1.22 Mb without the noise, seems like ditching animation is the only option.
I would like to thank everyone involved in helping me out.
EDIT: Got it down to 464,087 Bytes (Also kown as 464 Kb)

Just added a border reduced the image dimensions and reduced the number of frames from almost exactly 38 to 17.

1.86 MB is normal for a GIF file, especially if it's a big picture or a high-quality one.

But, at the end of the day all that matters is F*** this [censored], i cant take it anymore, i ditch animation!

No offence, but I actually downloaded your picture onto my XP computer, right-clicked on it in My Pictures, and it said it was actually 32.6 KB big.

1.86 is very ordinary for you. I had 10mb gif image, so don't worry about it.
