I know you can get free hosting through HelioHost and the like,
but is there a way to get free .com domains?

buy a .info or .biz,they are like 5 dollars a year, .cc used to be cheap too but not any more.

Really? .cu.cc? Almost as bad as the thankfully dying .co.cc.

Is it so hard to spend a couple of dollars/pounds/euros on a proper domain? It's worth the money.

You probably won't find any real top level domains for free. There is no reason for any company to give them away. The only time I've ever seen that happen was with OVH when they were giving away .co.uk domains on a 1 year lease.

Even then, wasn't that limited to existing customers with paying products?

I can register an .info domain for you next month (but it's like that GoDaddy deletes domains registered from different accounts with one credit card :( ).

.tk domains are free too. You can get one at dot.tk .

You can always try post for domain forums (the only one to be known in existence would be frihost)

When you get for free .com .org .ru and other domains, level 2, then registration is not for you, usually after a year of service domain, you have taken. Get a domain name back will be difficult. Therefore it is better to buy. Domain in the RU zone is only $3 a year. If you're interested in writing a pm.
