I just recently got Windows 7 installed and was wondering if I could move my install from F: to C:. Would it be possible to point the boot loader to the other drive and copy over all files?

If you have another OS installed, boot into it and use ImageX to WIM up an image of 6956, then extract the WIM with ImageX to the drive intended, or just Ghost the Drive and and load it onto the wanted partition/drive,

That for me would be the way I would do it, and their is no chance of any system files linking to the other drive.

(This is taken from NetRollers guide on for installing the VHD Image, but it can be used for this also, so no worry)

For ImageX Command to make a WIM of your install:


"Win7temp" is an arbitrary image name for the WIM, you can use anything here. You can also use image names other than "C:\temp.wim", but be sure to replace "C:\temp.wim" with the correct name in other commands as well if you do so.

Once the image is ready, extract it to the target partition:

(Replace Drive letters/names with your own)

Then add a boot entry linking to it:

(Again, replacing Drive letters for your own)

Why don't you want Windows on F:\
I have Windows installed on a non C partition, doesn't worry me, just need to avoid restore disks...
