Hello,

I can't complete installation of this OS. After formatting disk it very slows down file copying and hangs on "Restarting". Rebooting VM doesn't help because it hangs again on OS Loader. :? On other VMs like VMware and VirtualBox the installation process doesn't even run.

Use: A:\*.* C:\i386\*.*
4) Start setup from c:\i386\winnt (when using NT 3.51 use: c:\i386\winnt /s:c:\i386 /b /x
/s = source
/b = floppyless
5) Now setup will proceed.

Be sure to the use patched files, otherwise the Harddisk cannot be found.

Found this in an old post http://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4044.
Hope it helps.

In VMware Workstation with Workstation 5 compatibility it should run without hanging.

Windows NT 3.51 doesn't require the patches (only NT 3.1 and NT 3.50) (though its beta build, that is 944, does)

also, that guide is old, Rob does not put it anymore. Easiest way is to have three bootdisks of NT 3.51.

I had the same problem, just replace atdisk and reinstall.

I think we already established that it's running under Virtual PC. It's not uncommon to find issues like these on older builds of NT either. Some can be tricky to install properly.

Just installed using vmware workstation 5 compatibility with 256MB ram and a 4GB hard drive using the cd and three bootdisk floppies from wdl1.winworldpc.com.
Everything Worked fine, maybe your installation media has some problem with it,try downloading the cd version with the 3 floppies from winworld and try it in workstation 5 compatibility with my settings, it worked for me and there's no reason why it shouldn't for you.btw dont give it more than 256mb of memory or it will hang on the blue screen that says how much memory and cpus you have.
Good luck ;)

You just reminded me Jbrenn, you shouldn't use more than 256MB RAM to install NT on. 4GB partitions were obviously the FS limit back then.

@MSFTWizard, it's the same service providing it. Use Google or Bing next time to distinguish the fact that it's the same technology under a different name :)

This is like saying Windows 2000 is not Windows NT, lol.

Any OS without activation.
I have another issue. I'm using the floppy install and it doesn't boot into the GUI-based portion of setup. :(
I really need to install NT 4 betas from there as installing from DOS= NO GOOD! Can anyone help me?
