Hey,

To cut a long story short, how can I resize textures in an Unreal Engine 3 game down to take up less space and run faster on a lower spec computer? My friend has a legit version of borderlands but is running out of HDD space fast on his laptop. He doesnt have a dedicated graphics card and so playing borderlands on it is barely playable. I have seen some people saying that they have cut the texture files down to 75% of the original to save space. I would like to replicate this to both save space on his HDD and make the game run faster.

Thanks,

Whatever I wanna boot today
Find the Config file named WillowEngine.ini. Find the line in it that reads
Code:
MaxTextureDensity=55.0
. The value may be different based on graphics settings, and I've edited my config file before. Whatever this value is, reduce it to make the game run FASTER. If you're programming jargon savvy you might be able to dig through that config file further and find some things to reduce the graphics demands further (ok, you're on beta archives, you probably know enough to be able to find at least a few things).

As for making it smaller, I doubt you'll be able to make much headway. UE3 games have all the resources Cooked - in other words, they're packed smaller using a proprietary algorithm, which may or may not have been modified for Borderlands. You'd be better off using a program such as WinDirStat to figure out what's taking up the most space and then deleting unused files and programs if you're really desperate for HDD space.
