Anyone else having this issue with the Release Candidate? The process named "System" is constantly using at least 25% of my CPU and since I'm on a laptop, this causes the processor fan to run constantly and blow out a lot of hot air.

This hasn't happened to me (yet). I just installed the RP yesterday after it came out.

I do believe the issue started happening when I installed the Intel Management Engine and the the SM Bus Controller driver. I had those same things installed on the Beta and I never had this issue, which is odd.

Well, since it is a rather new build, regressions aren't impossible. I would suggest uninstalling those two things, starting with the Intel stuff first to see which is causing the biggest impact. They will probably have a fix out soon for it.

Agreeed. Considering how long Intel took to get their act together by putting out a decent level of driver support for the beta, there's probably some bugs present under RP that won't get fixed for a while yet. You should be able to do well enough without much of it anyway.

Disabled the Intel SMBus Controller and the Intel Management Engine Interface from the Device Manager, no change.

I've noticed. I don't have Skype running on my laptop at the moment though.

I guess I'll live with whatever is going on here until a fix is provided, just remember not to run on battery for any length of time.

I've got this issue, as well as an issue that causes the computer to just totally lock up under a heavy load - both of which I had in the Consumer Preview as well.

I can't even launch Skype, it just freezes and crashes and the "System" process takes up to 45-50% percent of my CPU :/

I just installed the Windows 7 GM45 drivers and I don't see anything new in CPU Usage.

I have only found one problem with a driver so far and that's that I can't use the track pad on the login screen for some reason after installing the Alps Glide Point driver, but it doesn't bother me, just hit enter, type my password and hit enter again.

Yes .I can confirm

Everytime I open Skype, system become slow because keep 100% usage of CPU. This happens only with latest version.
I tried with v5.8.0.158 and all works fine.

Finally got a chance to get back to my desktop and I upgraded it to the Windows 8 RC. Oddly enough, I'm not having this CPU usage issue on my desktop, which is an old Pentium 4 631+ based system. lol pre-release software

I thought system always does that?

If you let the computer sit for a minute and don't have any programs active and your cpu usage is above 5% either it's bloated, messes up, or really old. "System idle process" should be 100%-whatIsBeingUsed% so this should read in the high 90's when you are idling your computer but this is a very different process than "System" and it isn't "using" the CPU but rather telling it that there is nothing to do so do nothing and cool down.

If "System" is using 100% of a core it usually signals an operating system, driver, or hardware issue. In this case it appears it was an issue with Intel Drivers for Windows 8 for instance.

Though I did disable the Intel drivers a while back, still the same issue. Yesterday, I did a complete reinstall of Windows 8 on my laptop so it would be booting in UEFI mode and there was still no change with a fresh install.
