MAC OS NINE WILL NOT RUN UNDER ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN EMULATOR! FOR MAC OS ON A PC YOU NEED TO USE EITHER AN EMULATOR OR MAC OS 10.4+ FOR INTEL.

Oh sure you can run Mac OS 9 in VMWare... you just have to install Windows and SheepShaver first.

Damn, calm down...

@OP, I do not believe that PC supports hardware virtualization. But, if you really want to try Mac OS 9, use SheepShaver and an New World 4meg ROM. Mac OS 9 will not run in VMWare or any other x86 virtualization software. You must use a Motorola 68040 (Mac OS 7.6.1 - 8.5) or PowerPC (7.1 - 10.5) emulator to run any Mac OS version below 10. You could try Mini vMac, Mini vMac II+ or Basalisk II for emulation of System Software earlier than 7.6. :)

Instead of trying to emulate Mac OS 9, which won't give you the performance or real experience of it, why don't you just buy a vintage Mac? They're not hard to find on Craigslist or eBay.

If you need to run OS 9 then use Sheepshaver (do not request roms here). Also, learn the difference between MAC and Mac.

mrpijey, as you are an admin, you assume too fast, you dont know if i know that a MAC is a mac address and Mac is Macintosh.
I will not get a mac because i don't have the money for (which everybody on this site assumes i do).
When i ask for a specific thing, don't give me something else.

I have sheepshaver, though there is no exe to play with.

Unless you have no money whatsoever, getting an old Mac is fairly cheap. I see a few old Quadras on eBay for about $50 Buy-It-Now.

If you want to emulate, go SheepShaver though iirc that can only emulate up to Mac OS 9.0.

You don't have $30 for an iMac?

Did you follow the directions to actually get it working properly? First, install GTK +2 and SDL libraries. Get SheepShaver from emaculation, in the download topic. Get the link in the section labeled:
Quote:
To get started, always download this:

Extract the archive to a folder anywhere on your computer. Then open SheepShaverGUI.exe, configure your ROM file, memory, etc. Then create a new HD by going to the Volumes tab and pressing Create. Specify a size in MB (200MB works well) then create. Now mount an Install image of Mac OS X/9/8/7 (you can find some on the BA FTP). It can be in a .DSK (if you're really desperate), .HFV, .ISO, .IMG, .TOAST, .DMG, or other formats as long as they contain a proper HFV filesystem. If you want to emulate version 8.6, any 9.x, or early 10.x, use the New World ROM (you have to find it or dump it from a real machine. Not provided on BA due to legality issues.). Otherwise, if you want to emulate <8.6 / >7.6, get the Old World ROM (still legality issues, you need to find or dump it.) I'm not sure about this, but I believe you can also emulate 7.5.x on an Old World ROM too, with decreased functionality. I haven't tested this yet however.

If you boot to a black screen, check that you have SDL/GTK +2 installed.

If you boot to a floppy disk with a blinking ? mark, you need to ensure you have either an install image mounted or a image with a "blessed" System Folder.

If you see a floppy disk with a blinking x mark, the volumes you have mounted are not proper boot disks.

If you see a Macintosh with a smile face in it, you're all set. SheepShaver should boot to Mac OS or the Mac OS installation screen momentarily.

Enjoy my tutorial :)

Yea, nobody should have money for a mac. There all overpriced, over hyped, piece of poops. $1000 for a laptop that has the same specs as a $500 one at best buy? LOL!

We're talking about vintage Macs, not the new ones. Vintage macs go for anywhere between $10 - $1,000, depending on the model, quality and rarity.

I'd love to see an ultrabook for $1000 that matches the MacBook Air in any way.

Please, don't argue about stuff you know nothing about (apparently). There's more to a computer than GHz and GB and a handful of stickers. And keep to the topic please, this isn't about comparing a Mac to a PC, it's about virtualising a Mac, something you can't do with pre-x86 Macs.

If you know the difference between MAC and Mac then why don't type Mac then? And what does my forum status have to do with it? I just prefer it when people use the proper acronyms. I've seen far too many confusions the other way (Q: what's your Mac address? Uh, I don't have a Mac, just a PC....) etc. Nothing wrong with proper terminology.

And what exe are you looking for exactly? Sheepshaver exists for x86 as well and is freely downloadable. And it emulates Mac OS 7.5.2 thru 9.0.4. And it works very well, I use it on a daily basis with good results. But you will never get PPC hardware virtualised on x86 hardware because the hardware needed doesn't exist for it, at best you can emulate it with Sheepshaver or PearPC (which unfortunately will never run PPC OS9 or OSX 10.0-10.1).

So your best bet is the x86 version of Sheepshaver. You can find readily packages with roms etc on the net, just unpack and go.

Ack, I hate it when threads go that way...

Same thing with freaking games consoles.

SheepShaver maxes out at os 9.04 and 200mb may be to small.
