Ok so i got the netbook as i said in my other topic, which i want locked.
Anyways, so the netbook DOES in fact have an operating system, which is Windows CE. Not sure what version because everything is locked down, like seriously. I cant access the control panel or anything and dont know how to install another OS on this system. Help please?

Windows CE is basically an embedded mobile operating system. Not much really can be done by a home user but I'm sure that it would work a lot better in an industrial environment, as little CE programs were really written and anyone in the industrial area would write their own usually.

I seen a video of people were able to boot an OS from flash drives or SD card with a similar netbook which looks alike called a Sylvania netbook or something. I wonder what the boot key is?

You will never get any other OS on that

WinCE is a mobile OS, and a really bad one at that.

Do yourself a favour and chuck it, my missus's friend asked me to take a look at one she bought for pennies from those Bid TV Shows, I took one look and told her to return it, she did, and bought a real netbook

They are just glorified Windows Mobile 6.1 phones, only not as useful as you can't even make a call

Cheaply built, sharp rough plastic edges and feel like your going to snap something trying to use it

I've seen higher capacity batteries in a smartphone, to put it in perspective, that thing you have has got an 1800mAh Battery with "upto" 2 hours life

My smartphone has got a 1300mAh battery, runs a shed load more stuff that that can, WP7.5 OS and will last 2 days with moderate use

Even my old Windows Mobile 6.1 phone with a 900mAh battery will last a few days running the same OS !

My Old Phone CPU: 528MHz

Your Netbook RAM: 128MB
My Old Phone RAM: 192MB

Your Netbook Storage: 2GB
My Old Phone Storage: 4GB

Now you get an idea what you are looking at, seriously, get rid before you want to poke your own eyes out with the nearest chair

I got it to detect USB drives, NOW i need help more.

I need apps for Windows CE to tell me what version it is, since i cant use control panel. Also i need to know where to find internet explorer for CE or something.

You know how to use WinCE right ?

Double Click something but keep the 2nd click held down, and that is your right click menu (Might even work with 1 long click and hold)

There are settings in WinCE, you just need to learn how to use it and you will find the "About" hardware specs

You do see everything i posted above right? I cant access the control panel. I cant right click on my computer and see info, nothing. I need apps. If you can show me where to get Internet Explorer for Windows CE it would be appreciated.

I cant get MSI or CAB to work on it, as it says there not valid. So the direct from microsoft links for apps are not going to work.

There is no control panel, are you not listening ?

Best you will find are settings by pressing and holding on things until you see the right click menu appear (LONG CLICK = RIGHT CLICK) but it might be the 2nd click you need to hold down

It is a heap of junk, you will never get anything working on it. Even CAB installers from WM6.1 don't work with them.

Yea, there is really nothing you can do with it.

Have a look on XDA Developers forums for Legacy WinCE devices, you might hit lucky and find some apps that install on it, but don't hold your breath.


EDIT - There is a little info here explaining that you can maybe install Windows Mobile CABs manually if you extract them and copy the files across to the correct location
