I am going to buy a IBM PS/2 L40sx for 600 yuan and that means about 55-60 pounds. However the screen has a problem. Like this

Besides a straight screen replacement, I don't know what else could be done. It looks like the screen on the computer is pretty shot.

The options for you are as follow, to replace the screen or just get a new one. Sometimes replacing the screen itself can be more expensive, but not all the time. Also make sure you don't have a warranty with it, sometimes those come in handy at times like this.
