can it run?and is it worth it? are all classic applications going to work or will it need to be ported. i hear theres something to do with macos 8?

It depends on the model. Mac OS X Server 1.2v3 will run on the 700 MHz and the 800 MHz nvidia model, and OS X Server 1.2v3 is Rhapsody based.

As for Mac OS programs, I have no idea.

Check out the Apple database here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1835

Depending on your eMac version, you may be able to run Mac OS 9 natively - although all models should support the Classic environment within OS X. Whether this carries over to Server is a different matter.

It is totally worth it as it is one of the most formative development trails in the history of computing. From Rhapsody we can the gap between MacOS 7/8 and OS X being one purely of aesthetics and usability. Its interesting to see the tough choices that Apple had to make when it put the project on 4 year hiatus.

I could never get Rhapsody to run on native x86 hardware nor on my PowerPC 7300. I ran it in Virtual PC 5 or 6.

Do it.

well it sure doesn't hurt to try :)

All i got for ppc is an old imac g3 333mhz 64mb ram, and a newer emac G4 1.4ghz and 768 mb ram, i think ill have a better chance with x86 (i have so many pc parts im sure i got the hardware, alot from the p2/p3/p4 era)

You can run all kinds of Rhapsody and OS X betas on a G3.
