A picture of the inside of the PS might help us figure out where it's scratching from.

Is this for a PS1 or a PSOne?

There is a host of possible reasons for this. You'll need to open it up and check none of the plastic insides a broken or screws being screwed in too far. If the cause is the laser unit... it could be anything from the spindle not being aligned to not enough power going to the laser to lift the lens itself. There are plenty of articles around on the net on PS1 laser repair, but it's usually just easier to buy a new laser unit from HK for like 12 bucks (that said sometimes the new lasers need to be adjusted for them to work correctly).

Get your camera to focus, and take the photo again. It's very blurry.

I've fixed issues like this on numerous console. You can either sand the tray down or you can raise the drive by about 5mm+ using some rubber washers.

If all else fails and you still have a problem with the laser reading discs. If you have an old portable cd player that you no longer use, you can replace the whole drive mechanism (laser and cd holder), with the one from the portable cd player. I did this on my uncle's ps1 and psx and in both cases it made both faster when reading games.

was on my uncle's consoles, load times were quicker. It's also cheaper than buying a drive mechanism from an online store.
