it could be a faulty cord. is it a wireless mouse? if its not get the cord into a position that it works again and then make sure it doesnt move (i know it sounds hard) then use your mouse for a while. if it still disconnects the usb ports could be faulty and try moving it to another port. other than that try uninstalling all drivers for the mouse and restart your computer then reconnect your mouse. hope that some of that works for ya

Simple Answer: Your mouse is damaged.

Edit: I was having the same issue, using it and suddenly it stops. I need to disconnect and reconnect it again.
I supposed it's either lack in power it gains, or the red led itself is damaged and doesn't transfer mouse position correctly.

Try not touching the mouse and see if it does the same thing? Something tells me, that your cable is simply broken.

Do not install drivers or any software from Microsoft. That's entirely unnecessary.

There are a few things you need to tell us.

Do other USB devices have similar issues on this laptop?
Does this mouse do the same thing on other computers?

There are a few things you should do.

Update any chipset or USB drivers. Make sure you install them from the LAPTOP MANUFACTURER and NOT the chipset manufacturer. There are cases where the drivers can be customized for the laptop. Usually I would recommend installing drivers from the actual chipset manufacturer, but in your case I would install them from the Laptop manufacturer, even if they are older than the ones you currently have installed.

Tried to go to your Device Manager , Uninstall Mouse Drivers , but make sure your mouse is disconnected, Restart your computer and then plug in your mouse and see if that helps ..

IF your mouse was working fine in Windows XP , But since upgrading to Windows 7 has been giving you issue, Then most likely is 2 issue .

Windows 7 does use a bit more power then Windows XP , So most likely is a power issue .

The drivers in Windows 7 might be the issue, which in that case you will need to reinstall Mouse Drivers.

Being your Mouse is a Microsoft , you might want to tried this http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/downloads

I was sort of having the same problems with my MS PS2 Wireless mouse. (finally after moving it between spare USB ports) some times this was better for 1 or 2 days, then starting again. i cleaned to connections, did not help. Finally at last resort. I uninstalled the mouse. and click delete the driver also.... I then rebooted.... and let the OS install teh default driver. (when I rec'd notice) update is available I said NO, and moved the update to HIDE and do not show again.

No more MS PS2 Wireless Mouse problems.

I would suggest a series of things,

1) Disconnect your mouse
2) using the touchpad, navigate to 'Device Manager', disable all of your usb ports, then reboot
3) go to device manager again, re-enable all usb ports
4) reconnect mouse

if you are still having issues, I'm afraid I will have to agree with Ahmed Jebara. You need a new mouse. You can get them for next to nothing anyway, not worth any hassle!

As I said above, you need to buy a new mouse.

Any hardware can just give up the ghost for no reason. We have established that fact already. I really don't think you can 'fix' this issue.

New mouse right there, £3.99 delivered.

Did you try to look if it works on another Computer? Maybe your USB input is damaged... or your mouse cable is broken.

I also had this problem because the cord was damaged. Try replacing the mouse.

I'm having this issue as well, and it's not related to the mouse, I've tried other mice, and had the same issue, and I've tried the mouse on other computers and it worked fine. I know it can be fixed, because I had the same issue 6months or so ago and fixed it then, then reinstalled OS and it came back, but I forget how I fixed it, LOL.

If I remember I will try to share it, but it is fixable and a new mouse is unneccesary.

I don't pick favorites.
My best guess would be that that mouse, for some reason or another, just doesn't like your laptop!

Mouse is either shorting and thus the USB controller disables the shorted port or you have a bad connector, either on the computer or the mouse...

In situations like this Someguy2, you need to troubleshoot and find the root of the problem. I will give you a list to check off if you haven't already figured something out.

- Female USB Port (Maybe a faulty USB port on your computer.)
- Batteries (This does cause some issues, the computer may be trying to tell you that your batteries are low.)
- Drivers (Make sure to install the drivers FROM the manufacturers website.)
- Poor Signal (Interference?)

Also to help us better help you, you should definitely give us the model and brand of the device. You can do this by simply editing the original post so new thread viewers can use that information to better assist you.

EDIT: If you have any other wireless mouses laying around, try using another mouse to test and see if it is the USB port or the new mouse itself, that will narrow down the problems.
