How I understood, the first build will be looks like an SP for installed Windows Server 2003 R2... Yes?

I haven't seen anything yet. So I don;t know either.

Oh...

To Leader and Coordinators:

Where should I upload the winver app? It's been ready for days so PM me for the site, or... Direct Transfer.

We can use Bugzilla, or Sourceforge (Edit: Bad idea.)
Maybe one of those with a server can help out?

Okay, I agree with the opinion that this has to be a SP for Server 2003.
It can be as large as we want, but the first thing we have to do is Mod Win/Minlogon.
Then we can start adding stuff to it (like DWM, etc.)
Although,

that might be ALMOST true cept for one little issue..

its going to be using NT&2000 actual source code

i say if we are already using the source code we mide as well go for the whole enchalata

because this isn't like an NT compatibility pack for 2k3

So, we're still stuck up even if we did use only a SP.
And please, bring back the Windows XP-style control panel in this "SP"

Is it possible to have a 24/32 bit (depth) video bootscreen using a hyper-custom kernel file?(like 7), Or can we get there using a VESA driver?

It's actually possible for VESA to exist in Bootvid, just haven't tried it yet.

There can probably be a boot-time driver so that we can play around with bootscreen videos.
(Perhaps a CPL to change styles? BTW, we need mandatory UXtheme patching.)
Also, can we integrate Alky into the installation? Then we can probably find the Alky source and make it compatible with Windows 7 apps. Maybe we can even get the real calculator/paint/wordpad/notepad working on this.

Can we have native PNG support in Explorer?

I think the first few builds are an Service Pack for the OS, and then later compile the entire os.

Think small steps, but then we are sure that it works and the project lives and not discontinued (shame for all those other what failed because of lost of interest, too hard, or forcefully stopped).

It should be able to install on any build that is 5.2.3790 being service packs are universal (ex: SP's work on XP regardless of home/pro) (the same goes for vista's 6 versions)

Actually.

- XP, Service Pack 1/2 are for: Home/Pro/Media/Tablet (including K/N/KN versions)
- Service Pack 3 needs Service Pack 1 to be installed and it also for all above editions.

- FLP & Embedded have a different ''embedded'' service pack.
- Starter does not have an service pack, it cannot be installed, not for this OS.

Also XP has for every language another service pack, not multilanguage.

In Vista and Server 2008 it is different.
There is 1 Service pack for:

Vista:
    Starter
    Home Basic
    Home Basic K
    Home Basic N
    Home Basic KN
    Home Premium
    Home Premium K
    Home Premium KN
    Business
    Business K
    Business N
    Business KN
    Enterprise
    Enterprise K
    Enterprise KN
    Ultimate
    Ultimate K
    Ultimate KN
<I am sure I have them all noted, NOT counting x64 and x86 versions, all are in both, except starter, also starter is not present in N/K/KN versions>

Server 2008:
    Standard
    Standard Core
    Standard without Hyper-V
    Standard Core without Hyper-V
    Enterprise
    Enterprise Core
    Enterprise without Hyper-V
    Enterprise Core without Hyper-V
    Datacenter
    Datacenter Core
    Datacenter without Hyper-v
    Datacenter Core without Hyper-V
    Web
    Web Core
    HPC
    Hyper-V
    Foundation
    Storage
<same for vista>

- Both Vista & Server 2008 have 1 service pack, not client/server service packs anymore
- 1 Service Pack for all SKU's.
- Both Vista & Server 2008 have 1 multilingual service pack, no different service pack for each language
- Service Pack 1 = only for Vista (because Server 2008 RTM = Service Pack 1)
- Service Pack 2 = for both Vista & Server 2008.

The reason why this is, is because the base language of the system has only binary language.
During installation, for Starter & Home Basic & Home Premium & Business, there is the lp.cab also applied, only it is already unpacked during the .wim creation.

So you can change the language of the installation and after with only 1 disc.
In VLite, open the DVD folder (copy to harddrive) and the select LANGUAGE PACK for integration, it will be applied to the SKU selected, but if you select ''REBUILD ALL'' it will rebuild all SKU's in that package with the language.

But you have to find them first, they are all posted on mydigitallife, direct microsoft download links, but they are in .exe form, so you first need to run them, rename the lp.cab to something else, cancell installation, then delete the .exe file, and then rename the lp.cab back to lp.cab.

I have done this for all service Pack levels, including RTM, so 35+35+35+35+35+35 (35 language for all, in both x86 and x64 form) a total of 210 lp.cab's.
It was a hell of a job (took 8 hour's, including install of Vista in VM).

Let's just not over do it right now.

By the way, Even though I'm repeating this, is there any other application or two, other than the Winver :beta: that I can make for you guys and compile it?

First we need a small forum and webhost for the FTP.

I don't know if Andy would allow this (my website runs on this server) but I could create a seperate forum on my website for this purpose.

Then it should be online and it loads quick.
The disadvantage it, it should be secured (no quest viewing, maybe certain topics only) and BetaArchive name is in the webadress.

It would only be reached by direct link.

When all people have joined, then I disable account creation until new people want to come and join.

Hmm, does skydrive.live.com seem out of the question? If we encrypted the files before uploading them no one would have any idea what's in them (except for the name).

Although an FTP is a lot better.

How about http://forum.cscomputing.org? Unless we could get a private forum on here...

Registered. We can post links though right?

We should encrypt all of the files before uploading to prevent discovery.
PM the pass to team members.
