I've made a new project... No, you don't need to wait for it. It's already been done. Current version is - V10c.
V10a wrote:
• Stable • 3683 Core • Plex Look • New Sound Scheme (MS Official, that weren't in any of Windows'es) • The most reliable bug correction • Fixed Notepad Security Vulnerability (LOL) • Currently supplied in .vdi format
X Change "Longhorn XP Professional" to "DevTest" (not necessary) ✓ Change "winver.exe" image (thanks to DBlake) ✓ Fully remove activation ✓ Integrate Longhorn User Icons ✓ Change the bootscreen X Sysprep and supply in .wim format (currently not necessary)
V10c - first public build --- ✓ Integrate an app that controls full logging in, not partial (the famous bug, if you worked in Longhorn, you must know it) ✓ Fix moar vulnerabilities ✓ Fix Paint bug (it wasn't in 3683, it's my fault of this bug) X Install Alky for Apps (it installs fine, and even patches files fine, but running files throws Framework error) X Install IE7 (that is possible to do later) X Fix User Tile bug ✓ Sysprep and supply in .wim
Release version:
V10d --- ✓ Install something close to IE7 X Correcting .msstyles a little bit ✓ Disable Enhanced Properties Menu (it's so buggy) ✓ Finally, remove that buildtag ✓ Deleting .bak files ✓ Deleting Microsoft Debugging Files (you don't need that) ✓ Cleanup ✓ Integrating Longhorn Backgrounds in setup ✓ Supplying into a well-designed ISO
Downloading link will be available soon!
Screenshots (V10b):
Beta test before release: To beta test the RTM-Escrow version, you need to run Remote Desktop Connection application, which is available in Windows XP and higher operating systems. Then enter up address, which you have got into Private Message box, and press the Connect button. No username password is needed - you will be instantly connected to the Beta-testing machine.
Download link: Sorry, I can't post the download link, because I have problem with mouse and keyboard drivers - VirtualBox Additions messed all things up. If someone knows how to fully remove the traces from additions, I will be thankful. Screenshot proving full copy from VirtualBox to VMware with SysPrep 2.0:

and what is worse.. they all FAIL sorry but its true without the source you cant do anything to fix a alpha os,to make it stable
That's what I'm trying to do. I chose the stablest core, and 3718 look. I will integrated some security fixes, too (not as big as in Windows Update, though).

I am fully supporting this project 100%! I. LOVE. 3683.
And to giantsteen, Plex is epic. Esp. the color of the taskbar found in 3683.
BTW, are you going to fix the massive Longhorn User Tile bug?
I like Plex but it and also the Explorer in general is just inconsistent and the other icon views were HORRIBLE. And then there's the grey interface in later builds [whatever it's called, can't remember] which in IE does less than IE6 and it looks like a browser designed by someone who's been programming for 2 hours.

I will install Internet Explorer 7, read the topic.

IE in 4xxx builds, lol. Saying that, I do like the UI when it's set to Luna. Still don't like the disk meters and new icon views. Phodeo I think it was called or something beginning with S, not Slate.
Edit: IE in builds around 4051 is horrible. IE in 3xxx builds is the same as XP, but I don't like IE in general

heres something to bang head to a wall
what [censored] me off on XP and i see 3683 has same crap init is that microsofts uxtheme engine DOES allow for vertical separator to be invisible but does NOT allow for horizontal to be invisible
and if you delete the resource, whole theme becomes broken the BMP alpha transparency doesn't work either
having that worked, explorer would look so much more to true Longhorn
funny enough 3706 has this fixed but we both know its uxtheme doesn't work on previous versions
