That's awesome and great improvement! :D I can't wait to see more at BUILD and I hope the price of SSD hard drives will drop faster in the future. Now SSD is too expensive for me. :(

Clearly 3/4 of the people posting here didn't read the article, and it's probably safe to assume that all the laptops that didn't see a huge improvement are running SSDs, which most people don't have.

And I love it when people can't even spell the words they're trying to use to condescend.

I tested my OCZ Agility 3 SSD vs. my WD 7200 rpm hdd startup times (in Windows 7) & for me the SSD is 100% faster.
WD hdd: 32.88 seconds
OCZ ssd: 14 seconds

Looking forward to testing a newer version of Windows 8 on the SSD.
Maybe partition it & install the x86 & x64 on each partition & test the differences.

This looks promising, wonder how it will do on older HDD based systems. Since Windows 8 is supposed to have similar requirements as 7/Vista older systems should be able to run it just fine. I doubt it will boot as fast though.

@viper, I know, I've been thinking of getting an SSD, but they are so expensive. I really wish they would come down in price. also, in the video, notice the HP bios screen. I have a 2008 hp, and my friend has a newer one, which is a $1000 dollar high end one, which has the same color image, which could mean it is a higher end machine in the video, who knows? PS, does anyone have an entry level new HP with the color bios screen?

You can! At least one of the leaks has this feature enabled by default.

The TRIM feature ?

I used a code I found online to Trim my SSD in Windows 7 & its working great.

No. Windows 7 has built in TRIM support.

I was talking about the hybrid shutdown/hibernate mode.

It would be fascinating to see details on boot times of SSD vs HDD on the same system.

I'm still expecting faster boot times than Win7 on my current machine with an SSD. By the time Win8 goes RTM, I'm hoping to have a UEFI motherboard and SSD ready to go!
